I plan on getting a new harddrive for my pb, but I don't want to pay the exorbant amount for them to transfer my files over. I have an empty 40 gb external.

How do I go about saving all my information so I can easily transfer it back to the pb once I change out the hd? Would I have to reinstall panther or just copy the folder back?

There are a number of ways. Have you heard of Carbon Copy Cloner?

You can use this to make a clone of your current system onto your external HD. When you get your newly installed HD, just move the clone over.

(This glosses over some things, I believe, but you'll get the idea.)

I remember reading some time ago that Panther's Disk Utility allows you to do what CCC does so there's no need for it. But I'm not certain how this would work.

Good luck. Hopefully some of the smarter people here can help.

I tried that program, but it keeps on making me restart my system b/c it crashes the system.

I can reinstall the os w/ the cd the provided, right? I may just save my important files and start w/ a new install.
