Nice. I'm in the minority here, but the more ink the better. Looks great. If anyone else says otherwise, it is because they don't understand ink.

I guess my point is, good ink can be art - but it doesn't need to be. My opinion, find an artist who can on some level understand and capture what something means to you, and then mark the point in time.

The FW logo does indeed look quite cool, IMO, just not worth a tattoo.

Seriously. Write down what your tattoo means and print it on business cards... because you will be asked what the hell that means 50,000 times in the next 50 years.

I have an 8-track tattooed on my ass and I've regretted it for a long time.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

^ See?

But seriously, a FW logo? Wtf? So, you're meeting a young lady, things are going well, she slips her hands under your shirt and lets it drop off you back. She sees your tattoo.

She: "What's this, honey?"

You: "Um, it's the symbol for a technology nobody really uses anymore. But I got the speed predictions right."

Door: "Slam"

Good point. But maybe he doesn't have to give the most elaborate answer on the topic in that particular situation?

Every single person who ever sees that will ask you 3 questions.

1) What do those numbers mean?
2) What symbol is that?
3) Why did you decide to get that?

Enjoy

You don't get tattoos for other people and tattoos don't have to "mean" something. It is not anyone's business what they "mean." I'm always mystified that people view tattoos as fashion or a statement. Who the hell ever said a tattoo has to specifically "mean" something?

Why paint yourself for life with 'art', words or symbols if it doesn't mean anything?

The FireWire logo is indeed a good looking logo. But what the hell is up with the numbers? Geek gangsta?

As long as it means something to the person who has the tattoo, it shouldn't have to mean anything to anyone else.

I like the FireWire logo, too. It's abstract enough that it can look like just any symbol (like those horrible run-of-the-mill tribal tattoos), but it will mean more to certain people.

I agree with most people here, though, that you'll be kicking your ass backwards over the numbers someday in the not-too-distant future.

Maybe it marks an experience, a lesson learned, a phase of life - whatever. Why should you have to explain that to every rude, presumptuous dolt who feels it is ok, and even appropriate, to ask personal questions like "what does it mean?" You don't understand ink. People are not all the same and we express ourselves differently, right? His choice to get a firewire logo is his. Why criticize him? Do you really think your intellect and experience is superior to his?

I wouldn't do it myself, but hey, if you like it great!
I do like the FW logo and you can use the numbers as a password or pin number when you get old and have trouble remembering things.

That looks more like marker to me. If it really is a tattoo, then you need to find someone better next time. There is a lot of bleed out.

I think it's great. Each person has their own preferences, and whatever you want - go for it. You only get a limited number of trips around in circles on this planet.

I think Matt was just pouncing on an unfortunate wording of yours. Of course the tattoo has to have meaning—to the person carrying it. Like Matt said, there’s no point in getting a tattoo if it doesn’t have any meaning at all (such as the throngs of people who have 爱 (‘love’) tattooed somewhere between their shoulders—completely meaningless).

Not a bad tat,

Not that i would get something like that but to each his own. Evidently you must of struck a nerve with Peter for him to fly off the handle like that

Personally if I were to get a tattoo I'd get an apple logo over a firewire logo, but then I probably wouldn't get a tattoo in the first place - if that makes sense.

It's just new. Tattoos look bad until the skin heals. Give it a few weeks.

Then it will just look bad because it's a firewire logo.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

I did just think of the ultimate nerd tattoo.

An empty box with a red "X" in the middle. Like, you got a tattoo and the picture won't load.

Anyone is free to use it. Post a picture on here and I'll make fun of you.

The only tattoo I have is a dot the size of a period on my forearm. I got it when all of my friends were into tattooing. I was really close to getting the word "tattoo" on my arm, or the phrase "This is permanent".

I don't think I would regret either that much today, but I'm still glad I didn't get it done.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

I've seen plenty of new tattoos. That does not look like a new tattoo. New tattoos really irritate the skin. There is no redness or swelling present. I still say marker.

Since she doesn't know, you could always tell her it's a special forces tattoo or something else that sounds cool. Kinda like those Chinese symbols people get tattooed....

I would argue that a great number of people get tats for the sake of displaying to others. Do you honestly believe that the OP wanted to immortalize a significant event related to firewire? Doubtful. He got it so he can lift up his shirt sleeve and show it to others. A very appropriate question to ask is "what does it mean?"
