It don't offer anything good at all even though it looks nice.

I think the thing is free if you buy a G5.

Nice. That DOES look righteous. But, yeah, it doesn't appear that the functionality is as cool as the appearance.

Apple had cards like this YEARS ago and it was even cooler as it actually did something useful.

Well it certainly looks cool, but the benefits really don't seem worthwhile at all. I'm not sure I understand the point of it (other than to look cool).

i just went with a student of mine to the menlo park apple store where she ordered a g5. she got one of these pro cards. the benifits are o k. next day appt. with a genius, one time 10% off shopping day, software install, blah blah blah. bunch of small stuff ,nothing really impressive. she ordered her set up and the guy got the pro card out of the drawer and put it on the counter. i got all excited because it looks like its aluminium on the apple site. i grabed it to drool on it, and as i pulled it out of its plastic sleeve realized it was plastic. so disapointed. oh well. and according to the sales rep you do have to buy a g5 to get one.

Why would I want them to install software on my computer? It would take longer to go home and get the computer, give it to them (and remember it weighs 40-50 pounds), have them do it, and then get it back. Heck, if you're buying a G5 I think installing software shouldn't be too much of a challenge.

I would think a "loaner" program or something would be much more valuable to a professional user, to minimize downtime when the computer is a business tool. Perhaps Apple could have thought this one through a little better?

I agree. I think those are pretty shitty benefits. This whole thing just seems like a gimmick to get people to buy G5s.

yeah it does seem like a gimmick, but if youre a first time mac owner, and unsure of yourself, the help with the software install is easy piece of mind. so i guess to some, it can be seen as an advantage.

The card looks very cool! I wonder how long the offer will be good?

If it was more like a Barnes and Noble Readers Advantage Card (ie. discounts, etc) I'd buy it. I dont want a Mac genius in my house though.

Actually, I work part time at Best Buy and we are always having people ask us if they can buy a computer and have the software installed... We just say no because it can be a hassle. I think it's also a good time to talk to a real person about how they should be using their new computer.

Most Common Questions from Older Customers:
- How do I send eMail?
- How do I get images off of my digital camera?
- How do I surf the web?
- How do I edit photos in Photoshop Delux?
- How do I print?
- How do I chat?

I know to you and I these are the most BASIC questions a person can ask, but if you have never used a computer, don't have any computer friends or are new to OS X, these can be issues.

I think it's a great thing. Give a person a few minutes to ask questions and not look like a fool. People don't want to feel dumb.

Yeah, I think the Best Buy in our area just had one of those centers "installed". They do software, hardware, and questions I think.

Mitchell: You should've just told them to go to an Apple store
