Two of each: powered 4 port plugged into the MBA, ACD plugged into that, 4 port mousepad plugged into that, and the Apple Al keyboard plugged in to that.

Is the MBA USB as notoriously underpowered as most Apple laptops? I would assume so.

Actually, it's quite the opposite. The MBA's USB port is overpowered. That's the reason the MBA SD won't work with other MB(P)s.

I don't think any Intel based Apple laptops have the same underpowered USB issues that the PowerPC based Apple laptops had.

No; in Apple's infinite widsom they decided to make an external drive that only works with the MBA and no other computer. Even Dell can manage an 8x external DVD burner that works with any compliant USB port.
