For those who knew him, his humor, his love of music, jokes, cheese, cooking, dogs, his kids, shakespeare, the theater... he has passed on.

For those who didn't, follow the threads:

Hadn't heard much from him lately, but I made him this graphic after the election:

That's four or five now from this forum who've shuffled off (that I know of). On the internet, nobody can hear you age.

maxelson: Swashbuckling cheese-fancier and wordsmith of renown. We fought together in the Zimphire Wars, y'know. Him with his (s)wordplay; me with me custard tarts. He was one of the good guys.

Now he's wearing Space Pants™ in the sky.

Bummer. :'( I reckon you want to keep the details private (which is fair).
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

I don't have any details, but from the gist of posts on Facebook, it was a sudden illness that had complications.

We met a few times IRL, I wish it had been more.

So sorry to hear that. Max was a unique guy with a huge heart. He hosted several amazing MacNN get-togethers in his home near Boston.

The first time I met him and his (then) wife in person was at a B&B in Niagara on the Lake where we met up for a wine tour . This was 18 years ago, and because we mentioned that "we knew each other from the internet" the hotel owner for a dreadful minute thought we were swingers.

It took a while to dissuade her from that notion.

Man I am bumming out hard about this. He was one of the greats. I regret not making efforts to stay in touch more. He made everyone who knew him better.

At least it wasn't the big C, which gets all too many people. Most of those I've lost were done in by cancer.

Sorry to hear it. Sounds like a great person.

I never could have thought I would be here so long that we would start getting news that fellow MacNN mates were passing. Life is weird that way.

Awful news. Met max here first, shared stories, barbs but what I remember most was his generosity. Cruel that his story doesn't not get to go on ... his family is in my mind.

Max was my friend. We had many long email, chat conversations, & I spent some time with him in Boston. He had one of the sharpest intellects I have ever known, & was also the kindest most gregarious person, except that he brooked exactly zero bullshit. He was a Mac-fixer extraordinaire, a school teacher, a Shakespearean actor, & all around lover-of-life. He's left a huge hole in my heart. i pray for his two young daughters.

I haven't been around here in a long time, but from 2001-2004, I made so many now lifetime friends in this joint -- I'll never forget that.

Even though I never made it to any of the MacNN get-togethers (there was one in Hamburg a loooong time ago), I do remember Max!

Very sorry to see this. Did not know him personally as you guys did but the warmth of his personality here was memorable, and appreciated. RIP, Max.
