Is there a command line utility to do this? I don't even know if my MDD dual 867 machine has temp sensors built in, but since some machines do... hey maybe it does.

Search http://www.versiontracker.com for
temperature monitor. There is a freeware app available that has both a GUI and ASCII CLI output. I haven't tried it. Xserves have a built in temperature monitor util (I forget what it is called) "hwmond" or something.
-DU-...etc...
