Hello,
I am on iMac 21 with 10.8.5.
For the last few days I notice instances when the cursor dosappeared.
I found that I can revive it, by moving my mouse, connected by USB cable, from left to right on my table and after few movements, the cursor reappears on the screen.

Why, and what can I do to convince the cursore to stay alive.

Does this happen when you are using any particular app, or is this a general problem all the time?

A general problem. It happens occasionally every day or two.

Since it's a wired mouse, try plugging it into a different USB port.
If that doesn't clear things up, then try a different mouse. If the problem disappears, the mouse was at fault.
