As you may know if you own an iPod, Apple prevents you from seeing the music files that are on the device even when it is mounted as a FireWire drive._ This means, among other things, that you cannot import the music from an iPod into iTunes and/or move the songs onto your computer._ iPod Decloak allows you to see the songs on your iPod on OS X in an organized manner.

I've only had my iPod for about two weeks. I took all of my music files off of my Powerbook and put them on my iPod - to save space on the notebook. I just assumed that I could transfer them from the iPod whenever I wanted to...until I saw this prograrm on Maccentral yesterday.

For $2, it's a great program for people like me who have a specialized need...or those who for some reason lose their harddrive on the main machine that the iPod syncs to.

In case you didn't know, there are quite a few apps out there that do this. Some better than others. I've never tried this one. Check versiontracker.com for these apps.

PodWorks is the best, in my opinion.

Actually I didn't know there were other apps like this. PodWorks does look quite a bit better, and at $8, is also extremely reasonable.

Well...at least I only spent $2 on iPod Decloak.

Thanks for the information!

YUP I agree with that. I have been using PodWorks for a while now and it's definitely the best out there

Except that the files have nonsensical names and are spread out among many different folders.

PodWorks can read the database of songs that the iPod OS itself uses. That means it can display the contents of your iPod QUICKLY (it doesn't have to scan the ID3 tags) and accurately (with full Unicode support).
