Given the problems I've run into with the BOINC daemon lately and the resulting project idle time, I've had a few long WUs not complete on schedule. I'm curious if anyone knows how strict the projects are about deadlines, do they accept and credit WUs that are late or do they put the WU in question up for download to someone else so they can run it? Is it better to abort a WU that is not going to finish in time regardless of how much time is already invested in running it?

Just happened across this, oddly appropriate for the subject:

ze's page :: zefrank.com: DEADLINE

Gotta love ZeFrank.

Two cruncher s have the same deadline when the WU was issued. Let's say you're late and they are on time. A third cruncher will get then get the WU. Even if you're late but you turn in results before the third cruncher does, you will receive credit. If you turn in your results after the third cruncher has reported in, you get nothing. If you report in before the third cruncher, he still gets credit when he reports in because he will report before his deadline.

That makes perfect sense, thank you. No more aborting slightly late WUs it is.
