Actually I was thinking the same thing. Is the wii to become the new Karioke? Meaning something you only whip out when you got a group of friends over and want to act stupid playing Mario Party drunk with arms flailing?

So I guess since it has no hard drive new downloadable content and updates is out of the question.

Xbox 360 is still realizing new levels today for launch tittles which is awesome as since you have long finished them you can pick them up again and after a quick download you have new baddies, weapons, levels and difficulty levels.

The 360 is starting to look like a real steal now.

Metroid Prime 3 looks awesome and plays much better with new Expert sensitivity (plays like mouse & keyboard instead of move-out-of-middle-square-box-to-move)

http://media.wii.ign.com/media/748/748547/vids_1.html

Hands-on impression:

"We started up a new level where heroine Samus Aran explores a vast space station and immediately switched to expert mode. We're happy to report that it simulates the accuracy of PC first-person shooters almost perfectly, and we found ourselves soaring through levels, zipping around corners, pulling quick turns and zapping down enemies with pinpoint precision without seconds. Simply put, Retro has nailed it - and it makes the wait to 2007 for the game that much more difficult. We're not kidding when we write that Prime 3 feels like a brand new game with this control."

SMS is the worst mario game I ever played and just bad in general.

Mario Galaxy also looks like some SMS variant.

You'd think with all that talk of Mario 128 that has been floating around since the cube launch they would have taken the time to actually have one for the wii launch. Instead, they said it pretty much got ditched and integrated into Galaxy and SMS.

Yeah, I do find it hilarious that Mario 128 never materialized. And that's assuming it was the same project as 100 Marios.

Soooo... does it come with a memory card or if you want to download virtual games you have to buy a card first?

Heck what about saving your games?

$250 + $?

Is there anyone who has ever owned a next gen system and not used a memory card? Why do they make us get these separate?

Me. Neither one of my Xbox's needed it thanks to the hard drive. Same goes for the PS3.

Unless of course you want to travel with your saved games.

On that note if you have to buy virtual games and save them to a SD card how big are some of these classics? Aren't some like 100 + megs?

That is a big card yer gonna need.

I think I heard that it has internal flash memory. Also, it uses standard SD flash cards. You can get a 2gig SD card for about $30 bucks if you shop around.

Ok what is up with the launch and upcoming games? Why so many shitty Disney hacks and other kiddy stuff?

Nintendo releases Wii promo materials, games list - Joystiq

Pretty much the only thing for people over 10 is Zelda, the more mature stuff is already on 360.

wii-$250
extra controller $40 (this system is all about party games so this is a must)
Nunchuck $20 (required for most games
a real game $50 (wii sports don't count)
an sd memory card $20 (at best)

250+40+20+50+20=380 *1.05(tax) = $400 for me wii

Are those the announced prices? Because they're twice the Japanese prices listed in this thread.

Those are the official American prices yes.

Oh, and I even forgot to throw in the "classic controller" that you have to use with classic games.

The name of the system "Wii" is a bit pointless now as if you want to play with anyone you're looking at $60 a head for the controllers.

If 4 people are playing you're looking at $240 just for the controllers. I would have thought for SURE it would have came with 2 controller and in black also. I guess they are taking the usual approach of selling the bare bones system cheap and then getting home and figuring out you need to spend a ton more for classic controllers, a wiimote so you can play with someone and SD cards.

Oh and in 6 months they will come out with it in black and pink so everyone sells their white one to get the new one.

Even though that is a new shot I guess we can feel better knowing "they are still working on it" because we all know that they remove the jaggies 2 months before it is in your hands.

Also, Metroid 3 is STILL not in widescreen but they are looking into it. If it doesn't no way in hell would I touch it. The sad thing is developers said widescreen is easy to do and even SOME cube titles had it, so why doesn't ALL wii ones?

No, what I said was correct. Many games need the nunchuck. If you can get away with just the remote good but that isn't going to be the case, sorry.

Ok, assuming you need the nunchuck it's going to be $180 to deck your Wii out with 4 controllers.

Myself, I'm annoyed the controllers don't come with the nunchuck and classic controller shell.

That isn't much better but alright.

So 3 more controllers PLUS one or 2 classic controllers = big money.

I probably paid $120 when I outfitted my Cube with 3 more controllers. So for me, meh. Not a big deal.

I just think if Nintendo wanted to make it easier to buy controllers for games they'd bite the bullet and include the nunchuck. This will cause issues for game compatibility.

Ok wait, you mean every separate controller sold should be a nunchuck/remote combo?

The $250 system DOES come with the nunchuck already right?

"Readers have almost certainly heard the news: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption has been delayed into next year. Not exactly the development we were all waiting to hear. However, we do have some spectacular news to report, too, which is that Retro Studios has become the first developer to prove the potential of the Wii-mote with first-person titles. Corruption was sometimes-clumsily controlled at E3 2006, but thanks to a new control method designed specifically for pros, that's no longer the case."

Yes.

My worry is that parents are going to buy little Billy and Sally a Wii and a few controllers for playing multiplayer, not realizing the game they want to play requires a nunchuck.

Nintendo

Anyone thinking that Zelda shot with jaggies galore is old or was scaled upwards be warned because a similar shot that looks just as jaggy is from the official Nintendo press pass.

Even more ironic all of the press photos are on a WIDESCREEN high def TV.

You mean like those Gamecube demos that Best Buy has that are on 60 inch HD screens? Are you saying that implies all Gamecube owners have 60 inch HD tv's?

Why would they ever demo their product on something that didn't display what it was capable of?

Because they know how unmodern it looks if they slap it on a non-widescreen CRT.

Better to have it on a TV 10x blurrier and streched then nothing.

My guess is they just wanted large widescreens. And it's hard to find really big TV's that aren't HD. That isn't to say everyone owns large tvs, and therefore owns hd tv's.

Dont you just love the negative spin these couple of people try using against Nintendo. I guess since the PS3's price tag is so outrageous they need to try and combat it with something. Nice to see somone's not buying into their reasoning (or lack of).

All of the consoles are too expensive. Gaming is getting too expensive. This new era of $50+ controllers is crap. The 360 is expensive, the PS3 is stoopid expensive and the Wii is way too expensive for what it is.

Hope you are not talking about me as I mentioned I don't care about the hardware cost but the Nintendo fanboys have always been bragging about the cost.

Now it is known NOBODY will walk out of store with less then spending:

Wii: $250
Game: $50 (the built on ones wouldn't entertain you long)
Mem Card: $20 (min)
This doesn't include a classic controller everyone will want.

That is $320 just so you can turn it on for the fist time and do something useful which puts it real cost to a Xbox.

You're right! I should completely buy a PS3 instead! That'll be cheap... oh wait...

I'm really not sure what your point is. The Wii, any way you try and spin it, is the cheapest console. For one who is so eager to buy a PS3, your Wii price whining is really odd.

You're right, because it has the worst library.

Wii: $250
Game: $50 (the built on ones wouldn't entertain you long)
Mem Card: $20 (min)
This doesn't include a classic controller everyone will want.

That is $320 just so you can turn it on for the fist time and do something useful which puts it real cost to a Xbox.
Wii $250
Game $50-100 (of my choice)..it comes with Wii Sports, so not EVERYONE would have to get a game....but with the XB360 and PS3, obviously there's a bundled game, right ?
Mem Card: $20-30 sure.... one time buy (your choice one again)

So how much will that additional game for the 360/ps3 push the price upto ?

And as far as the clasic controller....so....everyone's buying the game to play classic games ? how about those with GameCube controller's, will they also have to buy the classic controller ?

comparing the price of the Wii + 4 controllers + game +mem card + classic controller to the base configuration of the XB360/PS3 without a game and with just one controller is obviously fair.

At least with a 360 you can DO something with it without a game.

I'd agree that the XB360 has a better game library right now (because it's kinda been out for a long while now), but the PS3, I wouldn't say that.

Also, EA today commented that the Wii in some cases can match the XB360's graphics.
