Help for a YouTube nube, poor resolution...

My father passed away last Sunday evening. He had cancer and Alzheimer's and I'm glad his suffering is through.
Now I come to the NN's for help on uploading video to YouTube. I put together a crude iPhoto slideshow, exported it as a Quicktime movie in 1680X1050 Resolution. (it asked for something so I set it to my own monitor's specs) and eventually loaded it to YouTube. On my machine naturally, it looks perfect, but the online version on YouTube is very poor resolution. Is there anything I can do prior to uploading (it took quite some time so my guess is that YouTube has down-converted the image quality) or even with the video itself to improve this resolution for other viewers?

And I am pretty sure that's just youtube for you. The youtube quality is very poor

Same experience here with YouTube: pristine quality on home machine and blurry pixelated garbage when posted.

If you make it a smaller size, I think it might look a bit better. It won't look as good as on your computer.
YouTube videos will always look bad full screen, but they should look pretty good at their regular size, in the little player window.

YouTube says you will get the best quality if you make sure your video fits the following description:
MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format
640x480 resolution (* most updated recommendation)
MP3 audio
30 frames per second
Note that it will still probably not look "pristine" — just like everything on YouTube.

I saw the MPEG4 (Divx,Xvid) format info and the 640x480, but I read from people who tried the above and no difference so I didn't bother. Upon your reading, I figured I'd give it a shot and exported to Quicktime @ 640x480 and it turned out better. I appreciate your feedback.

I followed their advice and the previously pristine video looked like crap on YouTube.
