We have a graphic artist who is using CS6 Master Collection/InDesign and when he saves his work to the server share, the document icon becomes an icon, and finder won't launch Indesign when he double clicks on it. Server environment is NetApp and DataonTap version 7.2.5.1. He is the only one having this issue, but others have issues where files on the server can't be deleted even though they created it. User is on 10.7.5 and CS6 MC and all are updated. We've repaired permissions and run Diskwarrior.
Do I ned to re-build his user profile, or is this a server side issue?

Just Indesign? is he using the .indd extension for his files?
Sounds like a server settings thing to me... but you checked permissions.
What happens if he saves locally, and copies to the server?

He is just working in InDesign right now. I'm thinking his user profile on his machine is wack.
He can work on the file locally and save it to the server but it becomes an icon. Even if he just renames it on the server it turns into an icon. I'm having him use a different machine today for more testing.

Sounds like when the .indd file is moved to the OnTap server, the associated invisible metadata/resource files, like the .DS_store files, are being lost or deleted, thus losing any association with the creator app on the Mac.

Weird. TODAY.... it's working fine. I hate intermittent problems.
