Hey guys. I have always been working under the assumption that you CAN use 8 cm CD-R discs in these slot-loading drives (I have a 12" PB). According to a knowledgebase document I read last year (dated 2000), it stated you can.

However, I only yesterday wanted to use something like that. I rechecked and Apple has changed the document. Check it out here.
It says modified April 2004. So, now I'm not so sure about using these things. Does anyone here use these smaller discs in your drive? Anyone ever used them in your PB?
Doing my part to make MS obsolete. Oh, and the Iraq war is a bogus war.

hmm...well, i always thought you weren't supposed to stick those non-standard sized disks into slot loading drives...that was my understanding back when i had a slot-loading drive imac.

My G4 cube accepts the 8cm discs fine, as it has two rollers at the mouth of the slot that sense the disc and ensure it is in the middle.

The Powerbooks lack such things, so no, they do not support the 8cm discs. It's a shame too, I'd like to use DVD-RW 9cm discs for 1.6 gigs of storage.

Just wanted to 2nd Drakino on that.

The newer slot drives are different. You'll know cause your drive shouldn't grab the disc till it is more than 3/4 in. While the old ones would grab it at 1/4 of it put in. This is cause the front rollers aren't there, regardless, I wouldn't test it.

Also, wish I could use those cute little DVD-RW discs. Mini Disc envy, I dunno....
