Think about that, and think about every other piece of electronics and plastic you own. Also consider, that FoxConn is likely nowhere near the "worst" employer.

FoxConn probably isn't the worst, but everyone goes through FoxConn. There isn't a computer company in the world that doesn't.

Guys, buy American!!!1!1oneone
The iPhone would cost twice as much, but who cares, right ? RIGHT ?
Oh, wait, this is the country where people drive 100 miles, then line up for 5 hours to get a $5 discount on a doorbuster. But at least that doorbuster is made in Ch..., uhm, nevermind.

Tech sites reporting on this are generating some hysterical/scary comments.
What is it about Apple that drives narrow minded simpletons to such levels of idiotic hate?
The way they carry on you'd think Apple was a company that ground up puppies to make into weapons to kill toddlers.

Foxconn is a vender to Apple, it isn't Apple. Apple just buys from them. If people are really worried about working conditions file a complaint with the Chinese government and the agency that deals with it.

Did anyone listen to the article? It does say that apple does review its vendors and has cancelled contracts for underage workers. It's not necessarily an anti-apple thing, or anti-capitalism, or whatever. It's an interesting glimpse into a different world.

Why does FoxConn's milkshake bring all the OEMs to the yard? Is there no effective competition?

Size and ability. FoxConn can produce at the quantities needed. A company like Dell would have to have multiple competitors signed up to match the capacity of FoxConn. And companies today like dealing with exclusive venders for special prices, less management and paperwork. FoxConn got so big because all these computer companies used to own factories that produced everything themselves, well assembled everything. As each one farmed out the work FoxConn kept adding capacity. Look at how much they spent just to do the iPhone 4 with those special machines. FoxConn has more people in its factories as many cities have people.
