Hi,

could somebody help me out on this.

a game running at 1024x768, shown on a 1920x1200 23" Apple Cinema Display, will it stretch the image across the whole display via interpolation, causing slight fuzziness...

... or will it display nice and crisp with black borders - thick borders left and right, narrower borders top and bottom.

I'm thinking with Knights of the Old Republic in mind.

Thanx for the input.

Francois.

Some monitors will change resolutions for the game while others and I am thinking this is the case for the apple monitors will just make big black bars. Even some CRT's will add the bars instead of switching resolutions.

My hp L2335 allows me to choose whether I want
  • stretched 16:9 (without keeping aspect)
  • stretched 4:3 (preserving aspect)
  • no stretching (i. e. small piccture with large black area around)

Remember that a 23" will be really large and the black area around the picture will be really, really large! The picture will use only about 1/3 of the screen!

Forgive my ignorance. How does it allow you to choose: via physical controls on the display itself, or via a software setting?

Thanx!

it will just change resolutions and display lines I think. but just on the sides if you're lucky.

On the display. the L2335 has quite some features built in, even Picture in Picture support!

Here is a picture of Max Payne running at 1024 x 768 on my cinema display. As you can see, it only has lines on the sides, so it must be doing some interpolation, but the image looked very crisp to me.

That looks quite OK to me. When I play MOH on my 20" ACD and reduce the resolution I don't get left and right bars like you, but it just puts the game at the top left corner of the screen with big fat bars on the right and botoom. It's kind of annoying to play away from the center. But I guess this is MOH's fault and not the display's because CoD doesn't behave that way.
