I have recently upgraded Firefox to version 2.0 and have found recently that it is running very slowly. Pages load up OK but actually navigating using the scroll bars is a bit of a nightmare as there is a long delay. The spinning wheel when loading pages is very slow and stuttery too. I also have a lot of bookmarked pages.

Safari seems a lot better.

I am using a G4 800MHz Power Mac with OS X 10.3.2. I'm not sure if the hard drive capacity is an issue - it shows up as 38.17GB capacity, available 16.13GB, used 22.04GB.

Any ideas?

Your hard drive space is fine. Do you hear a lot of hard drive activity? If so, that would indicate a lack of RAM.

No, there is no hard-drive activity. The computer seems pretty responsive on the whole.

I have 512MB of RAM, so that should be plenty I would have thought.

Maybe Firefox is hogging a lot of that RAM. You said the same thing with Safari is much better - is that when both FF and Safari are open or just Safari by itself? If the latter then its definitely FF.

You could try downloading an optimized Firefox nightly build for a G4 and see if that makes things better. On my G4 it makes a lot of difference.

Hmm, very odd.

I have got Firefox open again now and it seems much better tonight. Safari is open too.

I might try your suggestion of downloading an optimized build though.
