I predicted it would be available on T-Mo 18 months after launch. Max.

That’s what I thought too. I have seriously not upgraded my phone since the iPhone was introduced. Have any idea how embarrassing it is to be seen with 6 year old Blackberry?

My wife is upgrading to the iPhone 4 here soon (her work is buying it and paying for the plan, so no real option to wait for the new iPhone unfortunately). Want her jailbroken and untethered iPhone 3G? She's currently using it on t-mobile in the states.

Yupp, I'm definitely getting a Windows Phone unit. Don't care to be a part of either the Android or iPhone crowds at this point.

I'm glad I'm old enough not to worry about "the crowd" and what's cool.
I can just buy the stuff I enjoy using.

I never really realized how impressive Apple's ecosystem of stores is until I got a webOS and now Android phone. To this point, Apple's new adverts really make me want iOS again.

Well I don't buy music from iTunes, I don't read books on my phone, and I have a myriad of free Android apps that do everything I desire.
In short, I don't see the need to pay a premium for Apple's phone. Not discounting it in the future, but I've used alot of iPhones and Android phones and I fail to see any game-breaking differences.

Honestly these ads make me want to go WebOS for my next phone... I don't actually like the notion of being an elitist, I just wanna be reasonably smug!

The irony here is I don't think they're even trying to be elitist, they're just trying to take a swipe at the competition...
So they broke a cardinal rule of good advertising and came off as elitist.

iPhone users seem to be the most smug of all. Android users either bought an Android phone because it was free/cheap or because they are a fanboy, webOS users buying the Pre and Pixi generally bought them because they were free or on VZW had free wifi hotspot.

No way. Crazy Android neckbeards are so much more smug then iPhone users. It's not even close.
I'm not talking about your "I wanted to surf the web and email on my cell phone so I got a Droid something" people.
I'm talking about the "APPLE SUCKS, WALLED GARDEN, ANDROID EQUALS FREEDOM! REAL POWER! I CAN PULL UP A RESTAURANT MENU 3 SECONDS FASTER THAN YOU BECAUSE I'VE SPENT HOURS AND HOURS OF MY LIFE FUSSING WITH MY 7 SCREENS OF ROTATING WIDGETS DURKA DURKA" people.
iPhone users don't generally have a chip on their shoulders. A whole lot of Android users do. And won't shut up about it. Ever.

I kind of liked the ads. It moves the message away from competing about how many mb of ram the phone has to what it can actually be used for. Who cares what network you are on and how fast your download speeds are if you can't figure out how to use your device to consume content (assuming you want to).
Apple doesn't compete well on paper and these ads do a reasonably good job of highlighting the strengths of iOS without having to compare apples to apples.

But what I want to know is why Apple won't publish how much RAM the new iPad has.

Because it just works. That's why they don't publish processor specs, either.

There are iPhone users who are exactly the same. "I HAVE 1,500,000,000 APPS AND I CAN STREAM TO MY TV IN MY LIVING ROOM AND FROM MY iMAC AND I'VE SPENT HOURS AND HOURS BEATING ANGRY BIRDS."

I'm sure there are. But none of them seem to be in my life, and none of them seem to post comments on websites I read.
For every obnoxious Apple fanboy posting comments on Digg/Engadget/Techcrunch/CNN/slashdot/wired/etc... there are 25 crazed Android fans clucking about in that way they do... buck buck buckack!!!

Ugh, I agree. iPhone users rarely are as smug about their phone as the worst case Android users. Those commercials though... don't like'em. Feels like the "Smug Alert" episode in South Park.
YouTube - South Park smug farting compilation
Maybe I'll buy an iPhone when my iPod touch kicks the bucket, but ho-boy despite those ads. Not because of them.

I get that they're trying to highlight something more than just having apps (Since now every phone claims to have apps, heck BlackBerries have SUPER Apps... even if their SUPER apps can't do as much as regular apps.) I just don't think that telling me I can be a consumer whore on my phone is the best way to sell it to me. Google's been heavily pushing the notion of free apps to cheap people, that works, (great way to capture the whiny low end) they've also been pretty good about rhetoric.
Apple should probably connect with the notion of freedom to connect or something like that. That said they should also overhaul iOS 5 to allow for quicker freer communication.

Seriously!? But they're only like 3-4 months from likely releasing a new one... you'll only have the new one and bragging rights for like three to four months! How will you cope!?

Honestly, I'd rather wait with an iPhone in my pocket.

Same here. I've had my iPhone 4 for about a month now, and I'm enjoying all that it does well enough that even if the legendary iPhone 5 is announced tomorrow, I'll be happy waiting for plenty of bugs to be ironed out and all the tricks to be discovered by other folks before I start even feeling like saving up for one.

With what's happening in Japan (interrupted supply chains), Apple might not be able to stick to the anticipated schedule.

I traded the iPhone 3GS I had for work for a HTC Desire HD - pulling two identical phones out of my pocket because I couldn't tell which one was vibrating was getting on my nerves.
It's a nice phone, but I think the iPhone still has the edge on smoothness and 'it just works' factor. I crashed Angry Birds on the Android earlier, took a couple of minutes for the 'Angry birds has crashed' dialog box to come up where I just thought, 'what do I do now?'

Because Apple figured out a long time ago that the vast majority of its users don't care what's under the hood; they just care that it works.
