I may be able to get some older macs, as in beige G3s with G4 upgrade cards. They won't cost a whole lot of money, I'd say not more then $75 each.
I have no clue on the specs, but they are probably full machines.

What I need to know now is, are people interested in them? If I can get them, I'd need to have them all shipped to my house, and then I'd ship them to you all. If this happens, it's probably not for another month, but I'd need to know fast, so I'm asking now.

Let me know how many you'd be interested in (assume $75 each, and be surprised when it's less), and give me a way to contact you fast, and then if this happens, I'll use this thread to find you all.

Please be aware that it is first come first served, and I don't know how many I can get, so if you request 10, and someone below you asks for 1, and I get 10, then one gets 9 and one gets 1, but I will divide fairly.

Sounds like a bargain to me-- what speed G4 upgrade? Heck, I might take 2. Will they run OS X?

email me.

Edit: I'm definitely in for two.

Remember, this probably won't be for another month, I just need to be able to reply to the guy quickly when he asks how many I need (assuming he has that many).

500MHz G4s, I believe. I know no other specs at this time.

Yes, they should run OSX, they are newer(the company) upgrages.

I'm probably not parting out machines, I have to see what he gets though.

I provided all the info that I know.
All I was told was that this guy is getting rid of 40 or so, and I can buy what he doesn't give away to people he knows who want one.

It looks like I'll be able to get them the second week of October. No full spec details yet, but I'm going to assume max ram or close to it, G4 500s, HD are probably stock, but not sure. They will make great DC machines, that much I know.
More info as I get it.

The only specs I'll really know will be proc, and probably ram. Since I'm selling these machines as DC machines, those are the only specs that really matter.

Video, HD, won't make a difference.

For those of you considering several machines just for DCing you might checkout an Athlon XP.
This is an example that isn't a bad deal at all.
Cheap Athlon XP 1700 system
Too bad you cant dump the speakers and crap.
Just install RedHat linux and away you go.

More than ample for DCing.

Will you take Paypal? If not, can you tell us what you will take?

I'd be interested in a couple of these!

BTW, how about we challenge Phlump again. I know RC5 is winding down, but it still might be a fun way to end it...

Just as a reminder, I'm offering these systems at this low price for the purpose of being DC machines for people who don't have a lot of cash and want to build up a farm, or want to make a farm that is pure mac systems.
They are NOT being sold as desktops for people who just want another computer to turn off at night.

There is a reason why I put this is the team forum, not in buy/sell.

And (in the hope of not being bugged about it), it's $200 if you IM me about it from now on.

To whoever announced to at least one friend over AIM that I'm selling these and when that person then contacted me, obviously not even knowing what DC is, THAT ISN'T COOL.

Thank you for your cooperation. I should have more info on the systems in about 2 weeks.

That's cool. I want an older system to run 24/7 as I would like to have my newest systems off and not running all the time. With them running, my systems like to collect cat litter dust (silly cats) and litter dust is a pain to clean.

Sorry if you're talking about me, Scott. I may have come off differently then I intended to, but I am definetly going to be DCing with the machine (and any other machine I can get my hands on!!).

For those of you wanting to play with power crunching and Linux, here is a good cheap system..
Athlon XP 1600 ready to run sans HD
K7-841XLM 266/200MHz FSB Motherboard has builtin AGP graphics chipset, 10/100 lan, USB and modem!
A cheap 4GB + HD is all you need to add, and you might even have one of those hanging around, otherwise $10-50 depending on your internet search skills. Then you download RedHat Linux or one of the other free versions and install from CD or net install the OS.
Can even put DDR RAM in when you can afford to crunch faster.
I bet you could netboot the sucker too - scott?
Pretty reasonable for $300.

A little expensive at $300, and nope, can't netboot without an external NIC.

I too want one

I'd like to know the specs for SURE before i paypal you my money, but if its a 500 MHz G4, i'm pretty much in. Too bad the new RC5 will be so much slower than the last one (but nothing compared to how slow it will be on X86's!! Yee haa!)

Count me in but just one, I don't care how good a deal they are i simply don't have the loot for more :-D
Say, maybe this machine could double as my CGI bin, then my 604e web server wouldn't be overloaded at all.....

More news, and you all are going to hate me.

Looks like there are 8-10 systems that I will be getting (Hey, I wasn't first on the list).
More info coming, but it looks like within the next 2 weeks I will get them.
So 2 or 3 of you can fight over which get a machine (I think I need 5 here, I'll have to check again)

More news coming.

Nothing until I either have the machines in my house, or confirmation that they will be shipped direct to you. And I still have to get confirmation of total # of machines, since other people can grab them right until they ship. There used to be 28 of them
