freePhotoConverter 3.5 - MacUpdate

Also free, easy, simple. Not a Universal binary, but it's lightweight and does the job so well, it doesn't matter.

Thanks! Yes "freephoto converter" is very good.
Actually I was wondering which one of those app. can preserve the date of the photos, after compression..
EasyBatchPhoto has this function, but it's not a freeware..
Any thoughts?

Thanks

The Preview 4 version in Leopard has easy resizing of pix now , as a basic feature.
Myself, I use Graphic Converter 6 to resize , downsize , or Save For Web. It's amazing. Best $ 35.00 I ever spent on Mac software ever, for countless reasons. But especially the Browser...it's sorta like Aperture or LightRoom- Lite.

RapidoResizer, a free app, is also worth a look.

I find myself resizing and cropping photos for my website upload.
I created Automator actions to do them. Right click on items in the Finder > More > Automator and select the action.

QuickSilver can do some neat image manipulation just with a couple of keystrokes.

iResize is user friendly, intuitive, and does what it says and has always worked for me. If you just want to resize without a great deal of extras, maybe this freeware is for you: daniele.ch - welcome

I did some tests of my own on the above softwares, amazingly enough, I got some of the best quality results using Apple's Preview, "Save as" "Least quality".

I also like ImageTools 50% reduction for keeping quality. (That's image size, not file size≈25%) 1408

And iResize medium quality 1680. (Original image 2816)

Both these also seem to "Autolevel" photo's quite well, a bonus.

Reduction from around 2.4mb to ≈500kb gives best minimal files size for me. In any program.

I do have to say though, that I Use GC for batch reduction, of old photo folders, of non family and landscape etc files, to fit annual pics onto a DVD for backups.

I also like the fact that GC will allow you to select just a few images for slideshow, instantly comparing images using space bar.

I use that a lot for comparing two similar photo's, for removal of one.

I have a few contextual menu items that handle photo manipulation quickly. Used them for years without issues:

I really like this app: PhotoComplete by funkypixels software - the easy to use photo editor for Mac OS X

which has a lovely interface and a very nice non-destructive workflow for cropping, resizing, and other adjustments. The only annoying thing about it is that I don't know of a way to save the "recipe" and apply it to a bunch of different photos.

I keep coming back to Photoshop, I have the impression its compression algorithms (or whatever) are superior.
