I am not doubting you but is this confirmed? If so, the world of Mac OS X is coming to an end as know it

Unfortunately, yes. I only hope it's as easy to hack the app to get rid of it.

Why would Apple do something like this? I have never seen a time were Apple gets more positive feed back on brushed metal then negative. Steve's RDF?

Although all of the other enhancements look really really good, and though some of those are in 10.1.5, Jaguar looks like it will be worth paying for.

I didn't see Java 1.4 anywhere. Can confirm this?

I did see Python, TCL in one report. So you might want to add it. I saw on one of the Macsurfer links.

I am very curious how this will work because Mail does not have any calendat/scheduling features...how will you be able to see events?

Here's a short quote (there's lots of other stuff):

Jaguar Server

Steve said Apple has been hard at work on Mac OS X Server and Jaguar will bring the following enhancements:

- Headless operation
- NetInstall, NetBoot
- OpenDirectory (LDAP)
- Server optimized JVM
- Disk, print and email quotas
- Python, fast CGI, TCL, Ruby

What's Ruby?

Tack these onto your list:

Finder: New Get Info window. Collapsable panes rather than a popup menu. Expanded permissions options.
Finder: Forward button in addition to the back button in the toolbar

Dock: Icon badges on minimized windows.
Dock: (Unconfirmed) new background (no more stripes) and border. This could just be from the screens I saw on an already customized Jaguar preview.

System Prefs: "Screen" Saver" renamed "Screen Effects".
System Prefs: New "My Account" pane under the Personal heading.
System Prefs: "Users" renamed to "Accounts".
System Prefs: Digital Hub panes include "Burn", "Disks", "Music", "Photography", and "Video".

The terminal window used to demo Inkwell at the keynote was transparent, so yes the new terminal will still allow for our beloved transparency.

Is that because Snapz Pro X doesn't run on "Jaguar" yet, thus pointing to the fake nature of the Spymac posts?

It seems that these Spymac wankers get a real kick out of people believing their hoaxes.

Have they ever posted something that isn't a hoax? (I don't visit their site often, so I don't know)

Man! You guys are so paranoid.
The pictures are real. Other things I saw:

The Labels (bottom or up) just gives you the option of putting the name of the document or folder underneath or to the right (like list view)

The draggable minimized dock windows are still there also.

The dock background no longer has pinstripes

Sherlock no longer finds files in the harddrive. Command F opens a simple find (like in OS 8) And the integrated find on Finder windows searches the directory you are in (is not just a filter, like in iTunes)

Well, Snapz Pro X's application isn't supposed to appear in the dock, even if it is running. It could just be a glitch in the developer version they were using -- who knows.

Finder -- can show/hide icon or media previews. this is very nice for larger media files.

The new Inspector is pretty snazzy, I have to say...

I'll bite, visitor12345. Any changes in the draggable minimized windows' behavior? The video I saw from Xeo or someone a while ago made it look a bit quirky. Of course, this is pre-alpha software, so it could be even more quirky now.

Does the developer seed have an option for where theDock icon badge is placed? I would hope if not, the icon stayed to one corner of the minimzed window so as to stay clear of the content. Does the badge follow the minimized window out of the Dock or just disappear at that poiont? How big are those draggable minimized windows outside the dock? 128 x 128 or do they stay the same size as the other Dock icons (sans magnification)?

Are the Dock's pop-ups able to handle drag-n-drop operations? If so, is it hierarchical (that is, can you drag an item over the icon, the list pops up and you can continue to move down into sub-folders)?

Any more iTunes-like Dock icons? What about the Finder -- file search? Is there an option to hide an app from its dock pop-up? Is there more than just the "Close" option for minimized windows' pop-ups?

And for God's sake, is there anything like labels for these poor souls?!

It will show up in the dock if it's merely a shortcut to launch the program. No one ever said it was running at all. I assume there's nothing preventing someone from placing such a vital utility in the dock for quick use.

Could you explain? If only the current directory is searched, then it seems like it would sort of be acting like a filter. If it is a real search then it would seem to search outside the current directory. Any clarification on how this works?

Thanks for the suggestions. I added them to the list and hopefully we'll see some more as people play with 10.2. Some were already there, but under slightly different names.

I wasn't sure whether "headless" operation simply refers to NetInstall/NetBoot but I've given it its own line. Does anyone know?

It's not like developers can't use metal right now if they wanted too.

Apple's just making it easier if they have already chosen a metal interface.

Here's an app I was working on:

Added Firewall preferences to the list.

The macthis.org review suggests that it's in, and I have to say - another great feature! And another kick in the teeth for XP - the personal firewall was supposedly one of the best new features, and it's just a footnote on OS X.

Unfortunately, the server's down so we can't read the rest of the review..

A few things not noted:

Power management for portables is finally here! Energy Saver now supports profiles for "battery" and "power adapter"! No sign of processor cycling and such on my laptop.

Mail can run an AppleScript as result of a filter - that opens the door for *so* much power. I have friends who will switch to the Mac for just that feature (they have *lots* of e-mail to deal with).

Bugs with column sizes not "sticking" and previews not always appearing look like they're fixed.

Bugs with type-selecting items in Carbon open/save windows (try GraphicConverter, for instance) are NOT fixed as of yet.

Spring loaded folders has one annoying quirk - it won't let you obscure the source of a spring load in column view. So, if you drag a folder from /MyVolume/MyFolder/MyItem to /MyVolume/MyDocFolder/Etc, it won't work. When you try to spring open "MyDocFolder", it will open a new window, since opening a new column would obscure /MyVolume/MyFolder". Annoying. But hey, we have the thing finally!

Finder: Print Window ??????????

Please.... I hope Apple puts back "Finder: Print Window". Why did Apple drop this feature (present in System 6/7/8/9)? Can anyone confirm this please? Is it missing from MacOS 10.2 (Jaguar)?

I had a great idea when working and I'd like to see this included in a future version.

Me and a mate were working on the same computer. You know how you'd always be swapping the mouse so each of you could do stuff. Well, we got tired of this and used two mice. This is where the idea comes.

Mulitiple cursors!

Each mouse plugged into the computer has it's own cursor and functions independently of each other. For example, if I wanted to bring up a contextual menu on a file and my mate wanted to copy (drag and drop) a file somewhere else, we could do them at the same time!

This sort of feature, when extended would bring a truly unique OS.

If we could plug two users to a computer, two monitors two keyboards etc and they could both work using the same machine. Obviously, for really graphics intensive games, this wouldn't work (but for less intensive games, we could have mutiplayer on one computer). But the focus of this is for the office and education. One computer, two (or more) users with that many monitors and stuff to support: true multiple users. If you're word processing or somthing, this'll do fine.

A new mac: two LCD's back to back with the CPU in between.

What do ya think?

you guys forgot:
- spell checking for more languages
- mouse shadow disappears when mouse click effects something directly. (most of the time, has some bugs though)
- cocoa toolbars have option for small icons (is ugly like hell though)

Sure it does. OS X has a built-in NAT router. You can use BrickHouse to configure it.
