Nike practices labor abuse in so called sweatshops.

http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2004/...18115647.shtml

According to macrumors Apple is going to support such labor abuse by promoting Nike in its retail stores.

Good, bad?

So Apple is responsible for everything every other company does.

Is your local Mall supporting labor abuse because it permits stores to sell shoes?

Do those stores support labor abuse?

Does the guy behind the counter support labor abuse?

Does the guy that kills people to keep the union out (oh, wait... scratch that)...

Doesn't seem like such a big deal - a minor promotion, probably to sell iPod minis, considering the weight Nike's brand name carries in the urban cool / fitness department. Nike's a giant, however. For the few that are turned off by the sweatshop angle, there's an enormous potential market there.

That said, isn't there a bit of a conflict with Nike's own mp3 players - however small?

These Nike, Pepsi promotional deals, one wonders what's next...hmmm...

Well, obviously not for everything of every other company, but when they promote one product of another company they support how that product is produced. Albeit indirectly.

Yes, retail has an enormous power. What it doesn't carry might as well not exist. They are responsible as well.
If Walmart asked that shoes are produced with acceptable working conditions and wages, makers would follow. Of course they have no ethics as well, so...
Does the guy behind the counter support labor abuse?
That guy has not much to say. The manager who lists products is responsible.

The real criminals wear pinstripes.

I've always found the concept of labour abuse interesting. How is Nike purported to abuse labour in the third world?

You've got to believe me. I wasn't planning to buy shoes when I woke up today. But since reading this thread, it made me think about Nikes and now I might go out and buy some. Therefore I conclude Developer is supporting labor abuse by bringing this Nike discussion into existence.

Interesting that you can get shoes with YOUSUCK on it from Nike, but they consider "Sweatshop" an offensive word wich they refuse to stitch on a shoe.

Btw, if that was supposed to be directed at me, then you suck as a moderator.

1) Had that been directed at you, it wouldn't be indicative of how I am as a moderator, just as a person.
2) It wasn't directed at anyone... I just tried to make an ugly shoe. Touchy?

P.S. Indeed... I tried to make another shoe with "SWEATSHOP" but it was too many characters. I guess 8 is the max? "SWEATSHO" would have worked, but "SWETSHOP" was not allowed. I guess they are embarrassed about it as a company. On that first shoe, my instinct was to put "F**K" as the ID, but was declined on that. The second choice was "SUCK" and since it worked, adding "YOU" just seemed natural.

Before we think about how we feel about it I think we should ask them:

do i have to show the pic of fabio in a loin cloth again? choose your battles people, and beware of griping about sweatshops. the textile/apparel industry is riddled with stories about this.

once you start looking, youll find more and more that the only ways out are to knit your own sh*t or rock a loin cloth with a gourd for water. maybe some flint tools.
