Installing it now, hopefully everything goes ok.

No kidding... what about this:

Updates the battery status menu for portable computers.
Is this new or was this the part of the update that screwed up me battery? Anyone?

Otherwise no word form the big A on this issue yet?

It also includes an updated ethernet driver for 450MHz and 500MHz dual processor Power Mac G4 desktop systems and an update to the battery status menu.

Is pretty much what it says for people who are already running 10.2.8. It was a 500k update.

I just installed it on my iBook and my battery is back to normal. It went from 1:20 minutes at 65% to 2:18 minutes at 65%. All is well!

I have it installed now on my iBook and everything seems to be ok so far. Since I reinstalled OS X last night, I only had 10.2.6 and the update from 10.2.6 to 10.2.8 is 40.6MB, but if you already have 10.2.8, the update is around 500k.

I let the Software Update do the work for me on my 17" PowerBook which has been running 10.2.8 (the only ill effect I experienced was the battery meter giving an erroneous estimate of time left). The time now appears to be much more accurate with the unfortunate time estimate of 2:25. That is while running only Safari and iCal.

I'm anxious to experience the miracles of 10.3 on this machine to extend that time even further!

Installed the latest update on my 1.42 dual..no problems..but no problems with it before anyhow.

Installed it on my 500 mhz white ibook..
after a VERY long restart:
battery went from 1:30 time remaining to 2:17 time remaining (on a very old battery).

So glad that problem is fixed. Everything else appears to be working as well.

Includes support for USB 2.0 devices, including PCI and PC cards for computers that do not include USB 2.0 hardware.
So does that include the FW800 G4 Macs now?

I think a lot of us are waiting on the bugs to be worked out on Panther before we install that operating system.

I remember installing 10.0 and WISHING I had stayed at 9.0. 10.2 is a very nice operating system, and I wish I had waited until 10.2 before ever going to system 10...I will wait on Panther a bit to let the bugs get worked out.

I'll wait at least until next summer before upgrading to Panther, and only then when it comes with a new G5 dual 3 gig tower.

wow, I had 1:45 when I installed and rebooted to 4:15! Of course my Ti-Book has never gotten that before so I am not expecting that now.

Of course in the course of navigating to MacNN's site and posting this, it has gone from 4:15 to 3:00 to 4:00, to 3:50, to 2:40 . . . ah, stupid battery meter . . .

I just installed the new update, and I now get 5:11 in the battery menu. This is with a few USB devices attached and a second monitor! Sure, Apple fixed the monitor to make it read more, I just it would read more accurately. Sure can't wait for Panther.

It would seem the time displayed is probably completely inaccurate. It was useless before and it's useless now.

No problems with the G5 10.2.8 update here. OS shows as version 6S90.

I'm not going to call an ambulance this time because then you won't learn anything.

This update hosed my System (867mhz Quicksilver)...after a "successful" installation, my computer just hangs on a bluescreen after the initial start-up sequence and before it displays the user panell...after several reboots, a few file system checks (fsck -y), reinstalling the update from an external firewire boot drive, and running disk warrior - nothing!

The original 10.2.8 worked just fine for me.

As we speak, I am backing up my documents to my fw drive and will reinstall from disk.

Be careful everyone.

The 10.2.8 (G5) (6S90) finally lets iChatAV recognize my iSight properly. Refused to work under 10.2.7, despite multiple re-installs of iChatAV.

There seems to be problems again.

I had no problems whatsoever with the 1rst update last week. So like I always do I went through SU and it showed a 40mb update. As always without thinking twice, figuring SU knew what I needed, I clicked it.

Now I'm reading reports that since I updated last week, SU should have detected that I only required the 500k update. Well it showed 40mb. Damn it.

Everything seems to work fine except now I got my first ever kernal panic. So far only when trying to SMB/connect to server. It doesn't connect so I cancel as it tries and I then try to connect again. I get the "curtain drop" kernal panic sequence.

The only thing different with my system compared to the last time I used SMB is that I installed FCP 4 earlier today.

I'm not willing to go through the trouble of reinstalling Jag if this is my only problem.

Bring on Panther. NOW

iBook 900/60gigs/640ram/etc.

I can't see my dock, and desktop is messed. Black everywhere, wallpaper is not visible. It's almost impossible to use this computer as root. I made another user, and that works perfect, so I guess it's themes I've installed.

I uninstalled Application Enchanger and Themechanger: nothing happened. Tried AquaFix - doesn't work with 10.2.8.

Help, anyone?

Thanks in advance.

apparently everyone's saying that the network problems were on older macs. however, i lost network connectivity on my windtunnel mac and when i installed the revised 10.2.8 everything worked fine. it could just be a coincidence though.

this is what i had to do after installing the older version of 10.2.8. along with my network, my combo drive didn't work, so an external fw drive with boot disc was necessary. a dell fw drive saved my mac

Apparently if you read the installer it says on 450 and 500 MHz macs.

I'm a little worried after reading what a lot of you guys out there have to say about this latest OS X incarnation ... the upgrade gets 'pulled' on the 23rd Sept and 9 days later its back on line ..mmm, so soon ... I run an iMac with 10.2.6 (no Bluetooth) - I'm happy, it's so smooth - so, I have to ask myself if I really need 10.2.8? The answer - not unless I need a violent headache, sleepless nights and serious chest pains coupled with a dull pain down my left arm, I dont! I agree with 'Sheep' - The Panther is around the corner, so I'll wait for it to pounce

After installation, my battery indicator jumps back and forth sometimes showing 2:30 then 3:45 then 2:50 etc...
anyone else with this problem.
It looks like I'm getting more battery time with this new installation.

I updated 10.2.8 on my B&W G3/300 upgraded to G4/500. When I reboot, I just see the spinning beachball. Not even the boot panels.

I tried repairing the disk and fixing permissions. Nothing seems to work

My dear old thing ... Eureka!!
Apple, by accident (?) seem to have found a way of dispensing with that seemingly outmoded lump of energy - the good ol' battery. What potential joy ...!
If we are to believe that by upgrading now to 10.2.8 we get 'more battery time with this new installation' ... can we therefore look forward to the day when Panther - '10.3.8'(!!) is released and the 'outmoded battery' is finally is consigned to trash ... ??
Answers please - on the back of a postage stamp!!

I just installed the update, and I've got a problem I haven't seen mentioned anywhere else: all file associations seem to have died.

All of my applications and all of my files now have generic icons. If I try to open a file (jpg, doc, anything), I get an error that no "default application" is specified. If I use the menu to select the appropriate app, I get an error of type -10822.

I've also got the dragging problem, but I'm guessing that's unrelated.

Any suggestions? This has pretty much crippled me...

My Ibook is still screwed.. after recalibrating, the battery meter still indicates 20 hours.. and at 80% it just goes to sleep (with an empty battery). This update really screwed up my battery meter.

Since installing the new 10.2.8, Safari crashes after a couple minutes every single time. It rand just fine under the original 10.2.8. Anyone else having this problem?

I'm running it on a Pismo 500.

Edit: The problem appears to have been PithHelmet related.

I have a problem that may not seem major, but is definitely irritating. Prior to the update, I was able -- when in an application -- to click on the desktop and having the menubar change to the finder. Now, when I am in an application, clicking on the desktop does not send me back to the finder - the menubar stays with the currently open application! Instead I have to click on the finder icon in the dock!

I am sure that it didn't behave this way before, and I find it a small but significant irritation to my normally error-free mac computing.

This is on a brand new 15" Albook/combo-drive - 768mb of ram.

Other than that, my machine is flawless -- and now has battery life of around 4 hours (on automatic power saving with the display turned down).
