It occurred to me and a friend that there just wasn't anything like IMDB for games at all. Few websites have listings (gamespot, ign, etc) but they're incomplete and don't contain much pre-ps2.

Few weeks later heres what we made : http://www.internetgamedatabase.com

Its not finished and it doesn't have a hell of a lot of games yet. No, the name isn't very creative but everything else we came up with was mysteriously parked by bulk registers.

Any suggestions/tips/criticisms? Also, whats a good way to start getting people interested once we've finished the site?

Oh thats not right, thanks for spotting it. The text is the same but the images are way lighter than they should be.

Check out the Hall of Light:

HOL - the database of amiga games - abime.net

It has EVERY commercial game that has been released for the Amiga including all trivia and most of the free, PD and unrelased stuff too. 5834 game entries so far.

Hmm yeah thats something to think about adding. Thankfully we set it up to easily add systems etc.

Yeah those would have been little, uh, shorter.

Sorry invis, I didn't want to see you go to a lot of trouble to do something that imdb does...adequately.

even if imdb already does something like what you want, you may be able to create something new. Add a new twist to it! Innovation is the blood of the Internet. Good luck!

We are actually continuing. The other guy working on this noticed that IMDB is pretty incomplete when it comes to credits and what not. There is a lot of room for us to improve and do things with it they haven't/can't.

Check out Moby Games. It's an IMDB for video games that already includes almost 30,000 entries for games. That's a lot of catching up you have to do.

Actually they only have a mere 15,000+.

The moral of the story: before you create something make sure nobody else already did.
