Netflix losing major movies in September after not renewing Epix deal

Subscribers of Netflix in the United States will be seeing considerably fewer movies in the streaming service's catalog, as it has decided not to renew a five-year agreement with Epix. A number of major titles will be available until they are removed at the end of September, including Hunger Games: Catching Fire, World War Z, and Transformers: Age of Extinction, as Netflix works to expanding its roster with more exclusive content.
"While many of these movies are popular, they are also widely available on cable and other subscription platforms at the same time as they are on Netflix and subject to the same drawn out licensing periods," explains Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos. "Through our original films and some innovative licensing arrangements with the movie studios, we are aiming to build a better movie experience for you."
Recode reports that, though the deal with Netflix is ending, Epix has already secured another with Hulu. Epix movies will be appearing on the service from October 1, the day after it is all withdrawn from viewing on Netflix.
In a financial report at the start of this year, Netflix revealed its strategy to create original content, such as House of Cards and Marvel's Daredevil, is helping bring costs down for the service. It noted that in 2014, its original content was "some of our most efficient content," namely costing less money relative to viewing metrics compared to other licensed content. The original content also has the byproduct of being exclusive, making the service more attractive to potential subscribers looking for new things to watch.
While it loses many major films from its roster, Netflix already has other content in the pipeline. Beasts of No Nation, Ridiculous Six, A Very Murray Christmas, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Green Legend will be coming out in the coming months as original productions. Licensing deals with Sony Pictures Animation, Universal Pictures, and DreamWorks Animation will add more movies to the list. Another deal with Disney will make it the exclusive US pay TV home of theatrical releases from the company, with the films heading to Netflix faster than traditional arrangements.

Movies? What movies? I only watch documentaries. Streaming movie selections are their weakest of all. I use iTunes or Redbox for movies.

HULU sucks so bad. There are commercials for TV shows even if you subscribe. There is no DD sound on Apple TV as far as I can find. Some series are not even complete.
