The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, (2005)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0371724/

In Pre-production now, Filming
starts 19 April 2004.

Does this smell fishy or what.

The dolphins think so.

Curious how they'd wiggle a screenplay out of that. So much of the humor of the book is in the narration--especially the bizarre tangetial stuff that has nothing to with the story that appears between chapters.

How on earth would you film that? The only way I can think of doing it would be inserting Terry Gilliam style non-sequitir animation sequences.

Whoa, rather them than me. Adams was trying to get it filmed for years before his death, but yes, the narration is such a large part of its humour.

I can't for the life of me see how this will work, the books are just too quintisentially 'british'.

I mean, was there even a 'Ford Prefect' in the states?

Let alone Fenchurch Street station...

And I am yet to find a US person who *truly* gets cricket!

I remember when I read the book I had no idea why he was called Ford Prefect. I thought they'd misspelled Ford Perfect

I enjoyed the book and it was very witty at times. Very British at times too! I didn't get those parts I think.

The late 70's early 80's TV series did a fairly good job, even though it was made very cheaply by the BBC, so it can be 'hacked' into a screenplay.

Well, they could always use a similar method to that of the TV series.

WHAT!?

FWIW, it seems DNA himself had a screenplay written up, that was, um "rewritten" after his death.

God knows why. This could get bad.

I thought the BBC version was pretty cool. And I don't know whether I'm making this up, but haven't they cast Tim from The Office as Arthur? That's not bad casting after all, IMHO.
