I am so close to right now, backing up my MBP, and reinstalling the OS from scratch and doing every update but the keyboard one. The whining pre keyboard update was nothing in comparision to what it is now, ALSO, my internet connection seems to drop every few minutes now, it is ridiculous, so my question is, can I do this? I have always installed EVERY apple update immediately when released....

Sorry if it's a dumb question, just want to make sure before I go through with it.

Also, am I correct i assuming that the firmware update stays even when I format my HD?

Correct RE: the firmware version being independent of the OS on your HD.

I haven't installed it yet on mine - no problems at all.

cool, then I am going to do a CCC backup, zero the drive, reinstall OS with all updates but this one, then use migration assistant to migrate everything back over, should be simple :-)

FYI - If you've installed the keyboard firmware update, reinstalling the OS will not undo it.

My MBP is coming in next week. Any other updates that a person should avoid?

If you have the whine issue and are using the Mirror Widget workaround, do not install the keyboard update. It nullifies the workaround. I haven't noticed any problems not using the update. You can use Pacifist to reinstall the /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext that the keyboard update replaces.
