Is anyone else having problems with the sound output settings on their Mac Pros? I just got my machine today and can't get all sounds to route to my speakers. Audio from VLC goes to the speakers the Finder sounds go to the built-in speaker...

I just got mine today too. It was a bit perplexing to me too for a bit, I was playing with the Alert sounds tab. Then I went into the Output tab and selected the Line Out for all sound output and that fixed it for me. Did you try that?

Huh. I had the same type of stuff. I never figured it out.

When I go into sound prefs and select which output I want it to play out of, it works just fine. But if I plug in headphones then, in the front jack, it won't play sound through it like it did on my G4 tower. I have to go into sound prefs AGAIN and change the settings.... My G4 did it automatically, and it could play out of the speakers and the headphones at the same time!

Can anyone help me?

Macgeek, you can try playing around with Rouge Amoebas freebie SoundSource:
http://www.rogueamoeba.com/freebies/

That might help or it might not.
