Deadline - January 16th

Prizes - As it looks right now, the prizes will be custom MacNN Film Competition t-shirts for the winners of each category.

If you have an entry, make sure you post it soon. You wouldn't wanna miss out on winning clothes (you know, just in case you didn't get enough at xmas).

I'm sure you will--I just hope you don't end up with all of 'em.

Some great entries, I've enjoyed watching each one. I just wish MacNN gave the film competition more publicity.

I have a lot of ideas for what we can do for our third annual competition. Among that is not having it over the holidays and macworld.

Anyhow, the deadlines is in.....35 minutes Pacific Time.
Overall though, a great year with some excellent entries. I'll let ya know when the judges come to a decision.

Yeah, like why isn't the film-tab implemented site-wide and the forum put in the jump-menu?

For such a low-profile competition, it's great to see so many entries

The judges are a few of the mods/admins here at MacNN.
The contest is now officially closed to new entries. I'll get the few stragglers up on the entries page by this weekend and then the judging can begin full swing.

In the meantime, feel free to ask each member about their project. Be sure to check the older entries as well. Don't want them to be forgotten just because they entered early on.

patience...patience...

the official film site isn't even accessible right now (and i need to add an entry). the judges are working their magic, but remember, they have to watch 50 movies and rate each one. that's a pretty tall order. and some of our judges are getting the movies mailed to them since they have modem connections.

So since we are still awaiting judgement day maybe we can do something of interest around here?

Anyone working on any new projects?

Personally, the Urban Mastermind Crew is currently working on what will be the latest feature "RPM". We hope to intelligently make one of the best car-chase shorts to date, not unlike the BMW films. So think Richie's "Star" direction + "Ronin"'s intensity + A "<pi>" like narrative running throughout... Any comments would be greatly appreciated...

Sounds pretty sweet! I'd love to see a trailer or at least a teaser - post it up here when its done (and when you've got the time)

Me? Well I'm working on a movie too, with a bunch of my friends... "The Archway" It's futuristic sci-fi with killer CG robots. The teaser trailer will be done by friday (we haven't actually started filming, but I've been playing around with Lightwave) I'll post it... comments are very welcome

well, I am working on a *gasp* wedding video!!!!! Actually it is coming out pretty cool, but I don't expect to be posting a trailer or promo shot anytime soon.

This was fun, we should do it again next year.

(the newer images are at the bottom)
-and check out the test movie too, tell me what you think (in the end the robot will be composited with live-action shots)

i've completed my own judging of all the entries.
i was equally cruel to everyone.

now i just need to wait for the remainder of the judges to report in, and we'll be ready to announce the winners.

in the meantime, there is still that "ideas for next year" thread, waiting to be filled......

Tight shit bro.... I still like the monthly thing, but it may be a lot of work to find judges... Yet it may be a smaller pool of films to watch.. so?

Anyway, how many judges are there? And how's that t-shirt design? Upload it if ya can....

peace, Evan

i've completely finished my judging portion, but i'm still waiting on the other judges to get their scores in. it seems it is taking them some time to go thru the 700MB of movies available (some had a CD of the entries sent to them).

i'll set a little fire under the judges to make them work a little faster.

Tight.... I think we're all just really excited to see how it turns out...

But out of curiosity, how many judges are there? 3, 5, 7, 457?

Will we be emailed when the results are in? I don't want to sound like a jerk, but I'm kinda tired of visiting here to see if anything has been added. OK, I'm done complaining. Good luck all, there were some excellent entries.

A suggestion for next year: let contestants have their own voting for a seperate set of awards. No prizes necessary, just a way for us to show respect for eachother's accomplishments. I, and a lot of others I would think, would like to vote for other peoples work. Call it the "Industry Recognization Award," or something goofy like that.

This would be my ballot choices:
1) Hacker #84 (The presence of a Commodore scores extra points)
2) The Misdirected Adventures of the Mexican Wrestler Part 2
3) Exam Anxiety
4) Othello
5) 50s Newsreel

ah, a viewer's choice award, if you will. good idea.

as for announcing the winners, it'll be on here, on the film competition page, and probably on the macnn main page as well. so no, you don't have to check this thread every day to find out.

nothing has evaporated. one of the remaining judges is receiving all of the entries on CD very shortly. once he reports back to me with his scores, we'll have our winners.

As a "slacker judge" I'd just like to apologize to everyone. I got my scores earlier this week but it still took a while to get them done. The time I thought I had back in January sort of disappeared when the new semester started.

But, it's out of my hands now so good luck to everyone who entered.

OK, if this takes any longer we are going to be starting next year's competition before we know the results . . .

I have begun work on my new entry, tentativly called "Emoticon Love", I hope to have a trailer soon. I challenge the judges to finish before I do!

[Edit]: I just read some of the flaming going on in other topics on this board, and just wanted to make clear that I just desperately want to see the results (not that I think I won anything, some of you guys are good), and this should not be construed as an attack on anyone. Viva La MacNN Film Competition!

I'm trying to get ahold of the final judge so that I can announce the winners today.
If I can't get ahold of him, I might have to push it back to this weekend

We need this judge's scores too. A couple of the categories are dead heats.

I don't like this ending so far, can we see one of the alternative ones? Like the one where the scores are up and I won a T-shirt?
