Just saw this film at my local independent theatre with a friend. Wow, the cinematography was beautiful, and it left me still guessing as to what the story meant.

Spoiler Alert
Ok, I gotta clear this up, Dennis (as a little boy) in reality kills his actual mother at the end instead of the "cheap tart"? What did it mean -- how/why did it happen?

I take it that it had nothing to do with a spider? Was it a love triangle?

Whether it was a love triangle or not is contingent upon figuring out what really happened. There was a motif of strings and webs of string throughout the film, thus Spider.
