I just got a Nintendo Wii. And I can't find any real info on how to download games and if it's even possible to do it on a mac. I find info on that there will be games and that you can buy Wii points, but the only thing I found was for a wireless adapter that will work with PC's. Anyone with a Wii that can clue me in?

I'm not quite getting your question, Mallrat. Are you asking how to download Wii Virtual Console games onto your Wii, or from a Mac, or just how to get an Internet connection to your Wii?

For the latter, all you need is a wireless router and your Wii will be able to pick up the Wi-Fi signal. of course, you need to configure your router to give the Wii access. If you do not have a wireless router, then you need to physically connect the Ethernet cable to your Wii, in which case you need a USB-to-Ethernet adapter.

As for the former, once you've got a live 'net connection going into your Wii, you can buy Wii points and download games from your Wii. Your Mac or PC don't really enter into the equation in any way. You cannot download games on either and transfer to your Wii.

I was asking how to get online. Last night I did get my Wii online with a randon wireless connection, but I couldn't get my airport express connection to work with the Wii. I typed in the password, but it kept saying it was incorrect even though I know it's right and I tried many times.

Is there something else you have to do to make it work? A setting on the mac perhaps?

Do you have your airport set to only accept pre-defined MAC addresses? If so, you'll have to put your Wiis MAC address through your routers config window.

any more details on how to set up the base station so my Wii will recognize the connection would be great. I went to Airport Admin Utliity. I found a mac ID on the Wii and tried to enter it into the Access Control panel, but I don't know if that's where you do it.

Any further details would be outstanding.

A longshot, but try putting a $ in front of the WEP key that you enter in the Wii. On my MacBook to connect to my home router I need to do this, no idea why,

Maybe try playing with the encryption settings also? No idea really, but try the money sign.

I had some issues with getting WPA encryption to work with my DS (which i got before the Wii). The Wii could have the same problem.

Check if your Airport connection uses WPA to encrypt the pasword. if it does, try using WEP instead.

It's really annoying, but the Wii also seems to only work well if your router is set to use wireless channel 1. Anything else and it has a really hard time connecting.

I had no problem at all getting my Wii and my DS's to connect to our Airport Extreme Base Station.

I used a WEP 128 bit password. I tried the $ sign trick. I use channel 1. Still it doesn't work.

I don't have the extreme base station, just the express.

I seem to be alone with this issue.

Using a Wii thru an Express (at home) and WEP 128 with no problems btw. In the Airport administration program there is a menu item (menu bar on very top) "show equivalent web key" or something simular, that is the key you have to enter in your Wii.

Thanks fhoubi. I found that web key and it was a really long password. It was under profile I believe. Thanks for your help. It works great. I played NES Ice Hockey and Super Mario Bros after I downloaded them. Awesome.

If you use a WEP key password, change the password so it is exactly 13 letters/digits long. Then try and see if it connects.

The Wii may only support WEP, like the DS.

The DS only supports WEP, but the Wii does support WPA.

As the picture shows from the Netherlands I went to AIRPORT ADMIN UTILITY.

I clicked CONFIGURE and it opened up more preferences.

After you do that there should be a choice on the top of the screen called BASE STATION, move your mouse over that and the 4th choice is EQUIVALENT NETWORK PASSWORD.

That will give a password that is used to connect your airport to something that isn't a computer.

It will look something like this:

Hex equivalent password (WEP key): F814271914GHGF9C34282696PO

You have to type that whole thing into your Wii system when it asks for your Airport password NOT your regular password you would use if you were using your computer.

I'm having my guru over tonight, I'l let you know. The Wii accepted the password (THANK YOU) but then choked on the connection test, I'll post the results.
