So all these people that spent time making 3D icons have to toss them?
ugh. Not a fan of the iOS 7 look. I'm letting my kids upgrade their phone and then I'll take a look at it on a 5.
BTW: It's dog slow on a 4.

There unfortunately seems to be a direct correlation with how eye searing your background is and how well your app icons contrast with it.

Here's a semi-tolerable background. I also banished apps with janky icons which aren't mission critical.
The worst offenders of what remains are Apple apps.

If anyone can't work out how to get the search panel, swipe down but not from the top of the screen. Swipe down from top is notifications, swipe down from the middle, search.
|
It'll be much easier if you just comply.

They're still there. I have a Micro-Cell.

I guess it still works, but it's tricky to implement, and I haven't really found the trick yet.

I have iOS 7 now. Loving it so far. Much better than 6, which I did not install on my 3rd gen iPad until more than a year later after its initial release.

While I guess the sliver of extra room at the bottom in Safari, I find the pop-up navigation bar to be a dubious UI choice. The benefit isn't worth the counter-intuitiveness.

OTOH, swipe from the right or left edges in Safari for "forward" and "back" is very nice.

I feel there are weird choices which will make things harder for n00bs. Like, "<" and ">" for "Previous" and "Next".

Podcasts app is borked under 7. Buttons wouldn't respond. Crashed phone. Started, then audio couldn't be paused. Buttons wouldn't start. It's freaking out.
Just FYI, in case anyone else uses that app.

I firmly believe Apple wants to kill-off their responsibility as the repository for podcasts.
That used to move hardware, but it doesn't anymore. It's a money pit.

Curious response.
I'm already starting to find the bottom bar make pages feel cramped.

Agreed. Not too long from now we'll look back on the previous iOS interface like we look back on Aqua.

I am definitely noticing a drastic increase in battery drain.
I wonder if anything in this article actually makes a difference: iOS 7 battery life
I think I may only try the last one to disable the parallax. Not sure if that is worth keeping around if it affects battery life this much.

Location services were off after updating and wouldn't turn on. I had to turn off restrictions altogether, then enable location services, configure as desired, then turn on restrictions. No issues since. After updating scrolling and typing were jerky, but it got fine after a reboot.

A thread over there in the iOS forum is now the designated "tips and tricks" thread (well, designated by me, at any rate):
http://forums.macnn.com/103/iphone-i...04134/ios-7-a/
That way, this thread here can safely devolve into flamefest/bug complaints/luddite bitching, without anybody needing to fear missing salient information by avoiding it.

Anecdotal, but it seems like switching off location services for the Weather app restored normal battery life for me for the past few days, and re-enabling Weather's access this morning has resulted in fast depletion again.

I must confess I find the new UI a bit garish. The assault of color is a little much. I'm sure I'll get used to it but for now my eyes are bleeding.
As far as the new minimalism, my biggest complaint is that it's not always obvious what part of the screen represents a touchable element. There's very little delineation. For me it has the unintended effect of making the screen seem busy.
I do like some of the new app icons but you have to admit Game Center is just horrid.

The iPhone is just a 4 and probably won't be updated to iOS 7 ever (about time for an upgrade anyway, as soon as they actually release the new models over here). The iPad mini will likely be updated rather soon, though. It's much less critical to my regular life if that one is not 100% perfect in every respect.
|
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

I installed iOS 7 on both and iPhone 5 and iPad 4 and noticed that initially the parallax effect was very jittery; the icons were adjusting themselves even with the device flat on a table. And no, I do not live in an earthquake area. I toggled it on/off in Settings->General->Accessibility->Reduce Motion and it seemed to calm it down.
I also Really, Really dislike that when you tap a folder, you now only see 9 icons at a time. I understand that the 9 icons are representing what you see before you tap the folder, but c'mon on, there is so much wasted space.

Since the only iPhone in the house is my wife's 4S, I'll probably wait awhile before updating it for her. It's her work phone, so I'll wait and see what others in her office have to say about 7. There are a couple of her co-workers that like to jump on the latest things, so I shouldn't have to wait too long to get their feedback. My gut says it's a 50/50 chance that I'll ever do the update. For what she uses the phone for, I can't see much of a reason to update to 7.

...and there's already a bug!
The music controls in control center do not work! They do nothing!
After a restart of iOS7 the problem disappeared ...and returned after a while...
...restart...
Anyone else seen this?

Scrolling through some comparison pics on a break I think I realized something: The lack of delineation between certain parts of the interface irk me, but they do have a specific effect I do not think is unintentional – they're making the screens look bigger without making the physical screens bigger.

so this seems to be a pretty big security gaff:
accessing Control Center from the Lock Screen enables a thief to turn on Airplane Mode and effectively disable Find My iPhone.
Even if you disable Control Center, Siri still has access to Control Center functions, so the thief then tells Siri to turn it on.

How are people acclimating to the disappearing Safari nav bar?
I'm liking the extra space, but it's really bad UI design to have part of the page look like it will accept user input, but won't.
Conversely, it's irritating when that small strip is filled with links, and you just have to go with the idea touching those links won't accidentally take you there.
Does that make sense?

For example, if this is the webpage I'm looking at:
Everywhere I need to tap to get the nav bar has a link in it. It feels weird to have to tap a link to do something other than follow a link.

You can get the navi bar back by doing a short upward swipe (essentially scrolling up just a little bit). It's still odd , but better than accidentally taping on a link.

The particle engine, along with things like the fade in of the lock screen, make the whole OS feel a little sluggish.
I wonder if Apple is planning a phone with a faster chip.
