While burning a CD with Disc Burner there is a "(Writing 4X)" on the window display of iTunes. I have chosed 24X as my writing speed but it appears that I only get 4X speed on my new Lacie burner.

Please don't post the same topic in more than one forum.

Use Toast 5 Ti instead.

No problem on the double posting.

I don't have Toast Ti, and I like iTunes. Did you just say move to Toast because you know iTunes doesn't burn at 24X? More info would be appreciated. Thanks.

iTunes shouldn't have a ceiling... I think it works at all speeds.
However, Toast gives you much more control... and it's just plain better.

Are you by chance using a FW/USB burner, and using the USB connection? If so, I believe USB 1.x will limit your burn speed to 4x.

Rip the burner out of the case, stick it into a Firewire enclosure.

Problem solved,.

I am using FW not USB. And 'data' seems to burn very quickly compared to my internal 8X burner on my other G4. So I think it can go to 24X. Maybe a call to Lacie is in order. Or, I do have to go to Valley Fair, where they have an Apple Store, and then I will see how good the Genius is.
