I have no clue at all. I do not look forward to it. At my workplace, it means the inauguration of the Ribbon on the Mac.
Joy.

Ribbon already exists in Office 2008.
I'm looking forward to it for the return of Mac Outlook.

Meh, it's not that great of a program. But it's useful for the few Mac users I have here that are running Fusion and Parallels just for Outlook.

It looks the same as always to me.

It looks the same as Outlook for Mac 2001? Because that's the last version of Outlook we've had on the Mac…

No, of course not. The ribbon started with Office 2007 for Windows. It has not yet been brought to Macs. I haven't used Outlook since the 90s, and that was on Windows 9x.

They do not because it is not.

It may not be called the ribbon officially, but functionally it is.

There's no significant functional difference between Elements and Ribbon, but I'll recognize that they have separate names. Even for the Ars review from 2008, ribbon was their term.

Not sure why everyone's hating on the Ribbon. It's my favourite new feature of Office since forever.

The Ribbon does away with menus, which on the Mac isn’t happening.

I hate hate hate the ribbon on Office 2007. The Elements Gallery is really nothing like it, Ars review notwithstanding. The former is a big ridiculous mishmash of commands with different-sized targets, some plain buttons, some which turn into menus when you click and hold. It’s alleged to make functions easier to discover, but I’m constantly Googling to find out what’s on what tab. On Office 2008, the Elements Gallery is there for inserting specific visual things or restyling existing ones, and it goes away easily and sensibly when you don’t want it. And the toolbar has a limited number of things you might sensibly expect on a toolbar.
I’m terrified of the Ribbon in 2011, and I may just stick with 2008 for a while if it’s hard to avoid.
Oh, and Tooki, on the Mac version they’re going to use the Ribbon, they’ll just also duplicate everything in the menu bar to avoid doing away with menus. If only I could get that on the stupid Windows box at work…

So use the menus. They're not going away in Office 2011. They will be there in addition to the Ribbon, not being replaced by it.

I guess I’m more scared that the Ribbon will just be sitting there, taking up space and giving me creepy stares, as I try to just go about my business without it.
To put it simply, I don't want to ignore the Ribbon, I want to remove it.

And Microsoft finally published a release date: October 2010
It still humors me that they consider Messenger something worth listing as one of the apps you get.

If they think I'm just gonna buy it to get the Messenger, they are dead wrong.
I'm gonna pirate Messenger. There.
