I can read a map. I'm not waiting for turn by turn.

Sorry, but that just sounds stupid.
"I have a stockbroker. I don't need stock apps on my phone."
"I have a pen and paper, what the hell is this notes app for?"
"I can do math in my head. What's the point of a calculator?"
"Clock App? Umm hello, I have a watch!"
Just because you can do it another way, that's not the point of 80% of the apps for the iPhone.
Some people would like turn by turn GPS, even if they can read a map.

I hope so; I don't really need a GPS for my day to day commute, but there have been times when traveling (which is rare) that it would have been handy. I'd rather pay for an app then purchase a new piece of hardware...

People, you see a line on the phone. You see a blue dot on the line (that's you). When the line turns, you turn.

But what if I can't look at the screen because I'm concentrating on heavy traffic?
And what about when I take a wrong turn? Regular GPS devices recalculate the route and give me updated directions when I miss a turn or take the wrong exit. That's something I'd like to see added to the iPhone as well.

Yeah, the google maps GPS is great if you are the passenger in the car, or if you have a passenger to help you.
Otherwise, when you're on unfamiliar roads and by yourself, the Maps GPS is nowhere near as easy (or safe) as a dedicated turn-by-turn GPS.

I'm hoping Apple has something to show us in regards to a Turn-by-turn GPS app (either by them, or partnered with Garmin or Tom Tom or someone) at the 3.0 event tomorrow.

You can tell the people who never drive outside of their own little village by the funny things they post on the MacNN.
Amazing.
