I just want to run a simple FTP server on my Mac (using an account I've created on here) w/o having to use 3rd party software, but the FTP server in Panther still has chroot problems... this bug was there in Jaguar too... makes running an FTP useless unless you use something else.
Basically, anyone who connects has unlimited access to anywhere on my hard drive, but I just want to limit it to the account's directory (home, or even Shared if I could).
Is there a quick and easy fix for this?

In jaguar - I downloaded a version of lukemftpd did configure and make! It works with the latest changes - I wish apple would fix it. lujeftpd is the server used by apple!

no, I can access the root directory from a non-admin login.

Just make a file called /etc/ftpchroot.
In it, put each username you'd like restricted to their home directory. That's it.
When they log in, they'll see their home directory as /.
