Am using OS X 10.6.8. Backed up entire system (250 GB used of 500 total available) using Time Machine (first time ever) with a 1 TB, Seagate external, formatted to conform with the MacBook Pro . Back up worked fine. Added no more than 200 MB photo images during the first week. Plugged in the external and opened Time Machine to perform what I thought would be a sequential back up only. Instead of backing up just the 200Mb photo image files, it ended up being over eight (8) GB. Not sure how to see what files they are.

Also not sure how to address this but need a solution before doing more back ups.

Assistance will be deeply appreciated. Paul

Did you have any oth external drives connected? Those are backed up, too.

Also, every time you rename or move a folder, it's treated like a new folder and re-backed up.

Since when are other external drives backed up? That doesn't happen for me.

Did you exclude them? All my external drives are backed up as part of the single Time Machine backup, and have been since 10.5.

That does not include USB sticks, though.

I do happen to have one drive excluded, but there are others I've connected that don't get backed up.
