Does anyone mess around with this? I know some can get crazy with betting and all sorts of things. I set up an eight team league this year for the first time. Half of us have never done it, so it is a beginners league.
My starters:
Tom Brady - QB
DeSean Jackson - WR
Anquan Boldin - WR
Darren McFadden - RB
BenJarvis Green-Ellis - RB
Jason Witten - TE
Jeremy Maclin - WR
Sebastian Janikowski -K
Pittsburgh - D
My Bench:
Sidney Rice - WR
Jahvid Best - RB
Ben Roethlisberger - QB
Marshawn Lynch - RB
Marcedes Lewis - TE
Jonathan Stewart - RB
Dan Carpenter - K
Oakland - D
I feel I could use to beef up my WR selection, but other than that I think I have solid picks.

Well, obviously, your selection will not do well because the Green Bay Packers are way underrepresented

My friends wife is from Green Bay, so he had to pick as many Packers as he could.

I've heard of Tom Brady, he was on Family Guy!

I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

Looks like you've got a really good team on your hands, although in an 8-team league, I'd be curious to see how deep your opponents are as well. You can lay the talent on pretty thick in a small league. I'm guessing y'all's scores will be through the roof.
DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin are probably going to cannibalize each other's production. It's rare to have two wide receivers go off in the same week. If I were you, I'd probably try to trade Maclin for another quality receiver on a different team. Also, there's probably no need to take up a valuable roster spot with a backup kicker. You can just release your lowest-producer on your starting kicker's bye week to pick up a temporary kicker. Especially in a smaller league, where there's probably several high-quality free agent kickers.
Fantasy football helps you enjoy games in which you would normally have absolutely zero interest. Enjoy yourself.
I've got my second draft tomorrow night at 8:00. My primary team looks decent, but I'm predicting a down year:
QB - Matt Ryan
WR - Hakeem Nicks
WR - Julio Jones
RB - Chris Johnson
RB - LeGarrette Blount
TE - Jason Witten
K - Neil Rackers
DEF - New York Jets
QB - Jay Cutler
WR - Percy Harvin
WR - Jeremy Knox
WR - Michael Crabtree
WR - Derrick Mason
RB - Darron Sproles
RB - Kendall Hunter
TE - Zach Miller
I'm about to trade off Mason and Cutler for a quality QB/RB combination, and probably will drop another player for a backup defense, but haven't quite decided yet. Hopefully Tuesday night goes a little better. For the first time ever, I was ten minutes late for a draft and missed the opportunity to pick Aaron Rodgers again. He carried me to the final last year, almost single-handedly.

All that I know of fantasy football is that my dad is in his office upstairs and sits at his computer for a few hours a day making teams. No thanks.

Ha...some people take it way overboard. I made only 11 moves all season long in our baseball league, but we had a guy make over 220. Football is a lot better, since you can check your team only 2 or 3 times per week for 10 minutes, and that's all the investment it takes.

Yeah, we just spent 2 hours doing a draft for our interoffice league, and there are people already doing trades.
Some folks take it far too serious.

Here's my team that I drafted this weekend. 10 team standard Yahoo scoring. I picked fifth overall, and went Charles-White-Rivers-Blount-Gates with my first five picks, so my WR depth is a little weak but Gates mitigates that if he stays healthy.
QB: Philip Rivers
WR: Roddy White
WR: Santonio Holmes
WR: Percy Harvin
RB: Jamaal Charles
RB: LeGarrette Blount
TE: Antonio Gates
K: Rob Bironas
DEF: New Orleans
Bench:
Santana Moss - WR
Fred Jackson - RB
Cedric Benson - RB
Joseph Addai - RB
Michael Crabtree - WR
James Starks - RB
The weirdest thing that happened in the draft was that someone grabbed Vick after he had already drafted Tom Brady.
When this place wasn't Teh Dying wasn't there a MacNN league?

Someone picked Vick and Brady? There's always one in every league.

Seems odd, but depends on what rounds he picked them up. Getting both within the first 3-4 rounds would be strange, but if one of them fell to the later rounds and there was no one else out there, I could see him using one of them as trade bait down the road.

Nope, his first two picks. I know he wants to use one of them as trade bait but I've never seen anything like that actually work out.

I would go further than that and say that there is no reason to carry a backup QB, TE, or DEF either. Well, maybe a DEF in an 8-team league so you can play match-ups. But if you have Tom Brady you're never going to be sitting him, ditto for Witten, and if he gets injured someone like Roethlisberger will probably still be out there on the waiver wire. In a 12, 16 or higher team league then having a backup can be more important.

Then that's just horrible drafting, unless you have a Wild Card position you can plug in any position player. He passed up a 1st/2nd round RB that would have put a lot more points on the board every week. Especially in a smaller league like an 8 team league.

Yes. 10 team league, but still.

Just wrapped up another draft last night, and fared significantly better.
(this is my last one, I swear)
QB - Drew Brees
RB - DeAngelo Williams
RB - BenJarvus Green-Ellis, whom I drafted 99% because his name is fun to say
WR - Andre Johnson
WR - Miles Austin
WR - Mario Manningham (flex position)
TE - Jason Witten
DEF - New York Jets
K - Nick Kaeding
QB - Eli Manning
RB - Shonn Greene
RB - Brandon Jacobs
WR - Malcolm Floyd
WR - Julio Jones
TE - Jimmy Graham
DEF - Dallas Cowboys (sentimental pick)

If Brady or Vick falls past the fifth round, then the league is full of idiots.

Me neither. You always get less than their full value.

True, since you can pretty much write off your bye weeks with a QB like Brady, Rodgers, or Brees. You'd have to a spend a first or second-round pick to get one of them, so you're not usually going to light it up with the rest of the team.
On that note, I really hate that I missed out on Rodgers this year.

I'm doing okay so far. My defining players are tomorrow. The Pittsburgh defense is killing me right now though. After tomorrow, I'll adjust my team. Any recommendations?
