I cannot use iCloud Keychain - it needs a phone that receives SMS (I don't have one)

Greetings
I cannot use iCloud Keychain because I do not use phones.
iCloud Keychain requires that I have a phone that can accept SMS messages.
I do not have such a phone, and I have no plans to go out and buy a phone because of finances.
So, how can I use iCloud Keychain to store my passwords?

I have not yet received a response to my inquiry about how I can use iCloud Keychain if I don't use phones.

If you google for "Receive SMS web" you find a number of services that offer this service on the web. Haven't tested any of them, but if it is only for a single use, it can't be too bad.

The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

Activating iCloud Keychain on Mavericks does not require any SMS if you have an iOS device.

Both my Macbook (running 10.9) and my new iPod (running iOS 7) asked me for an SMS when I tried to set up iCloud Keychain on either device.

I just tried it, and the activation request showed up on my iOS devices, not via SMS.

Huh? Well then why is iCloud Keychain asking me for a phone number but not asking you for a phone number?
I did a search before I made this thread and found other people saying that this is how iCloud Keychain has to be setup.
