Mods delete posts a lot without telling anyone. It's kind of annoying, and misleading.

I doubt a mod would delete a clever joke in context to the threads subject.

No posts deleted from that thread (or this one, for that matter). vB may have eaten them.

It's not vB, either the data exists in your MySQL database or it doesn't. If it was posted and is now gone, unless vB went and deleted posts (which I doubt), chances are your problems are with data integrity.

But it's hard to say more without knowing anything about the architecture behind this forum (i.e. whether the database and/or web servers operate in pools, whether the database server is shared among other MacNN pages, what PHP extensions are installed, what the average load of the DB server(s) are, etc.)

CW's right, no posts deleted. I went further and checked for edits - even edits within the 5-minute window that don't show. nada.

No, it 's not that reader50. It was a stand alone post, and it said "ow."

Well despite zombie punk's assertion that we randomly go around deleting posts, generally speaking, we have a good reason to delete any post that gets deleted, and usually, though not always, we post to let people know that's what we did. And it's for exactly the reason that brassplayersrock² posted here; people notice things like this. The forum rules say we don't have to explain why we edit or delete a post, but we usually do, and we usually use such events as a "teaching point" to demonstrate what rule or general practice (the rules say be polite, but not exactly how to be polite) we're taking action on.
And this post is already way too long so that's all for now!

That's what I don't get though. How/why is a post that says "ow" one to be deleted by a mod. or admin.? It fit in with the topic of the thread, and it was funny. If it was a deletion due to "+1" I can understand. I'm going to just go with the some weird vB bug thing for now.

Well like reader and I said, nothing was moderator-deleted from the thread. We can see when that happens, because it just gets soft-deleted (it's still there for mods and admins to see). Maybe it's a data integrity thing like besson mentioned.

I should point out that 1) mods can only "soft" delete any thread or post, and 2) deleted threads or posts are visible to staff members—they are very prominent, in fact. So if a post/thread was deleted, all of us on staff would be able to see that clearly. Absolutely NO posts have been deleted in that thread. As has been noted, vBull may have eaten a post, but generally speaking that also causes other issues, like corrupted dates on other posts and such. I agree that it could be that sort of thing, but it's odd that others haven't reported time traveling posts and other signs of corruption.

There is a another possibility - a post could have been accidentally moved to another thread. There would be no visible indication afterwards, but it would be noted in the thread's edit log, and in the moderation logs. I checked both, there were no entries for that thread.

I swear I posted in this thread previously, but now I can't find it. Has anyone had a similar experience?
