Get great animated desktop pictures from Microsoft here .

More folks should make animated desktop sets like this. i bet some guys in the gui forum could come up with some wicked ones.

You could turn them into a screensaver and run it with one of the screensaver on desktop utilities. The crossfades should work then (but crossfades too fast for a desktop probably).

Yes, it would be nice if more people would make desktops designed for animation.

Is there a windows world equivalent...

...and if so, how does it work comparatively?

Just curious. not sure how long the boys in redmond will let this fly is is non-existent at this quality level on PCs

Nice, but I think the name is deceiving.

Anyone know of short videos of landscapes or something that can be played in a infinite loop to use as real animated desktops through software like DekskShade Plus?

i tried looking for those but couldn't find any.

i'm thinking the best bet would be to edit a quicktime trailer.

i think it would be cool to have a looping breeze-blown landscape or clouds or water, something moving but not action-packed.

Yes, you will. I believe quartz extreme (which includes cross fading) is supported on computers with a 16mb graphics card or higher. (Your ibook probably has a 32mb graphics card.)

It's supported on Radeon and Nvidia cards...not on my Rage card

For animated desktops check out xBack from Gideon software ;

http://www.gideonsoftworks.com/xback.html

It allows you to use any OS X screen saver as a desktop backgroung. . .

It eats a ton of CPU but it is rather cool. Thanks for the link.

It doesn't actually use any CPU, it's the screensaver that's eating it. Try using a saver that's easy on the processor and it will be easy running in the background too. I have a couple favorites that I use in the background quite a bit to impress people at work. Also I use Backlight to do it because it's a menu item and it's FREE and always works perfectly! A great light running saver is called Warp Field. It's a beautiful modern update of the classic Warp screensaver.

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.
