hey guys. i tried searching, pm'd some people, but no real response.

anyway, on the macbook pro, is a regular headphone jack (like the ones that come with the ipods) supposed to stick out? it's starting to annoy me. If i move the headphone cord just a little, the connection between theheadphone jack and port becomes loose and i lose sound through my headphones.

any fixes?

thanks alot.

A pic would be nice. Did you make it come loose somehow? It doesn't seem like that would be easy to do. From what it wounds like, you should take it in? Is it still under warranty?

thanks for the reply tuoder.

i just got the computer a week ago. the port itself is stationary, it's just the jack that conencts to my headphone swivels around a lot and does not sit flush with the sides.

that picture is the farthest the jack could go without me applying too much pressure. is that normal?

Thats not normal. Do all headphones do that? It may just need a good push.

My set does the exact same thing on my 15" C2D. The only headphones I've used are the ear buds that came with my black nano purchased about 14 months back. It protrudes slightly but fits snugly. It doesn't slip or wiggle, even if I try.

If it fits snugly, and happens to other MBP owners, I guess it is fine.

When the earbuds are inserted, the jack fits securely, but I can still rotate the jack, if that's what you mean.

That's probably normal. If the headphones work, just forget about it. If it really bothers you a lot, try a different set of headphones. I'd suspect your headphone plug is too long before I'd suspect a problem with the jack.

it seems that all the standard phone jacks are way too long. seems like a bad design imo.

OK, um, first let's get one thing straight: the "jack" is the hole into which the "plug" gets inserted. "Jack" never means the plug.

Anyhow, Apple laptops have for years had somewhat shallow headphone jacks, leaving the plug to stick out a bit.

Well while mine isn't completely flush it never sticks out that far.

Mine sticks out a bit too - only had it plugged in once, but it wasn't flush like my PB used to be.

Could it be because it is also an optical jack?

I'm a bird. I am the 1% (of pets).

My old minidisc recorder had a jack that was also optical, and plugs didn't stick out.
