Hello,
Id like to start using OS X but due a lot of work in Office. Ive heard that after you buy Office X you can only put it on two machines, and that Microsoft requires an internet connection and downloads a lot of information from your machines.
is any of this true? I have two G3's b&w and a portable. can't see giving microsoft more money if they limit what I can do with the office X
thanks. rotut

Micro$oft does not access info from your machines. What does happen is Office surveys your local network for other machines running Office programs with the same serial number.
So you will have to buy three copies of Office v.X for your machines (unless you want to learn the hack that defeats the checking ).

Hello again,
thanks for our help. Ive read the thread mentioned above, but what is not clear to me is that my three machines, two G3 and one portable are not on
any network, they stand alone. two connect on accoation to the internet, the portable does not.
does this make a difference? or does MS simple log the serial number to a specific computer and then never allows it to me mounted again.
sorry for the confusion on my part.

If you aren't on a network, you'll be fine with just one copy.
