I have just had a look at the new releases on the iTMS UK Store and they need to think about pricing a bit more in my opinion.

There is a great example on there today, not something I would buy, but it will be a big seller on CD's at least.

Brittany Spears - Greatest Hits is on the UK store for 13.99, that's $25.99!!!

In the UK stores and online retailers you can buy the album on a real CD for 8.99 ($16.70) - 9.99 ($18.56)

Even on the US Store it is selling for $17.99.

Do they really expect this to sell when you can get it far cheaper elsewhere?

Where is the motivation for buying it online?

I know it will be the Music company who dictate the price, but this is plain silly!!

Buy it elsewhere then. Simple enough.

That's my point!!

People will buy from somewhere else or worse download it illegally or take a copy from a friend.

I thought that the whole point of legal downloads was to prevent people feeling the need to copy CD's and do illegal downloads.

Pricing downloads more expensively than the CD's is not going to help the cause, it will make it more likely that people will look for an illegal copy.

If you are running a business you don't say to your customers 'Buy it form somewhere else', next time they may not even come to look at your store.

You're not going to fix it by bitching to us. Fix it by buying elsewhere.

I think dubious albums such as Britney Federline's "greatest" hits should be priced higher in the hopes that people won't buy as readily.

It was not a 'bitch' but simply an observation.

I buy my music from where I feel I get the best value and service, sometimes iTunes sometimes a store.

If you are not interested in discussing business practices and ideas then fine just ignore the post, otherwise mind your own business.

I really don't know why I bother to try and start sensible DISCUSSIONS here, as usual all you get are ignorant people who either flame you or don't read what has been written correctly and jump in with both feet.

I really can't be bothered using MacNN boards any more.
I have found a better forum online where people are actually supportive and discuss rather than attack.

Good number for my final post - 1111

You're missing the point, Parky. It's likely the record companies not Apple putting the prices on albums. Chances are the album will sell. Then again, you could make a very strong argument that the record companies don't know dyke about online business practices.
In this case, it's likely that Apple is simply a conduit, therefore your "discussion" is off-base to begin with.
If you're truly upset, either buy somewhere else (which will send a message to the record company), or contact her UK record company and lodge a complaint.
Apple isn't going to be able to help or hinder the cause, therefore a discussion thread headlined" iTMS pricing needs more thought" is incorrect and it's your initial assumptions that need more thought.

The price for the CD will probably go up in a month or two. That's how it works here...

I don't think the iTMS price will.

Thus ends Parky's glorious quest for iTMS justice. A sad day.

This has been the case since it came out. Many albums sell for $15 as a digital, copy protected, compressed audio file. you can but the same album as a CD that you can do whatever you want with for $9.99.

God only know why anyone would buy the digital one.
