Widespread reports are surfacing of some sort of incompatibility between Wacom's driver package, OS X 10.9 "Mavericks," and Adobe Creative Cloud products. Users are reporting serious lag between input and recognition, crashes from Creative Cloud, and extremely high CPU usage, often necessitating a reboot to regain system stability. As of yet, there is no official fix from Wacom, other than a reinstallation of the driver, which does not seem to fix the problem.

Wacom claims that "the latest tablet driver 6.3.7-3 (on the Wacom US download site) is compatible with Maverick without major issues. In case of problems, we recommend to uninstall and reinstall the driver. [Users] may, however, need to update [their] application software, if it runs slower on the new OS."

The Intuos line appears to be most affected by the problem, with users reporting that as soon as a render is started, the pointer lag becomes so severe that the tablet is useless. The lag does not affect USB mice, such as Apple mice or trackpads, from functioning properly. Besides a driver install, Wacom also recommends an install of the AutoCAD preview, which refreshes application caches, but users have reported limited success with this step.

MacNN was able to reproduce the problem. We started with no issues with the latest driver and an Intuos 5 on a variety of hardware including the new Mac Pro, a 2010 MacBook Pro, and a 2009 Mac Pro tower running OS X 10.8 "Mountain Lion." An upgrade to OS X 10.9 "Mavericks" instigated the problem on all of our testing hardware. None of Wacom's solutions provided us any relief from the issue. Following completion of the render, system performance and input returned to normal, until the next render.

...just one more reminder of why upwards of a third of the world's computer users are sticking with their workflow investments and sweat equity, and Microsoft has listened, extending malware xp support for yet another year through 2015...

Is that a group as big as all the mac users on the planet ?

How many individuals would want to deal with such trouble as outlined above if the cost of time was born by them, rather than an employer...?

You make it sound as if XP was problem-free. Hardly.

The fact that it *needs* malware protection extended for *yet another year* is proof enough of that ...

But the fact of the matter is that you're trolling some point that only you understand. Wacom did a bad job at updating their driver for Mavericks, so that means ... um, we should ... all stick with XP? Or something? You're not making any sense really ...

He's talking about the rather basic business maxim of not upgrading a working investment unless you're given a compelling reason to do so.

Which is, well...duh.

Apple have stuck to a five-year support timeframe for the past fifteen years or so, but there is legitimate concern that Apple is accelerating that, abandoning older software in favor of newer versions which only run on new systems, over perfecting older ones. I would rather they ****ing fixed the issue that corrupted iMovie projects with complex text layers (using kerning and vertical adjustments). Instead, they removed that from iMovie 10 entirely and made that Mavericks-exclusive, to boot.

I don't see why XP keeps getting brought up, though, because fifteen years of support for XP is nothing but a demonstration of Microsoft's complete failure to build a compelling successor for a surprisingly large part of their market.

Spheric: thanks for explaining that, makes a tiny bit more sense now.

As for Apple accelerating the five-year timeframe -- if there were looking to do that, they goofed big time by supporting Mavericks on machines back to 2007, wouldn't you say?

iWork 13 and iLife 13 will only run on 10.9.

The frameworks in iOS 7 have changed enough to make a number of apps iOS 7-exclusive already.

Apple aren't accelerating hardware obsolescence; they're accelerating software obsolescence.

Within Wacom forums one user searched though the instal and found
they had Android packages & folders included!?

It's also the major cause for why Mavericks doesn't except it as
is, giving the warning and telling you this is unsigned.

Post 12 page 3 on the above link.

This does not appear to be an Intuos issue - it looks like a Photoshop CC issue. The same lag exists in Photoshop when using the Mac's trackpad. Move into Corel Painter, and the lag disappears - trackpad or Intuos. Some lag exists in Illustrator, but not nearly as bad as Photoshop - Photoshop CC really seems to be the culprit.

I've uploaded a video (from my iPad; sorry for the quality) of this behavior in case you'd like to see it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwR76V-hmLU

Calling Adobe first resulted in finger-pointing to Wacom (quickly squelched when I pointed out the same problem existed when using the trackpad), and then sending me a link to a 5-year-old Adobe Forum post that's for Photoshop CS4 and Wacom Intuos 4 tablets - the solutions present in that post no longer apply.

Hopefully Adobe will get on this soon...
