YES APPLECARE.... period
you would be foolish to NOT get it
if only for the live help on the phone for 3 years...
you will want that alone
and it is worth it
going without applecare is like parachuting with a backup chute
or french toast with the bread
or driving without the transmission
ok
i'll stop now
just get the applecare
you won't regret it
for all the money you've ALREADY spent...... it's a SMALL PRICE TO PAY

I bought it on my first Mac & felt it was a little wasteful...regardless, DON'T buy it from Apple. Smalldog.com sells it MUCH cheaper.
I'd wait until the first year's almost up; if you're POSITIVE you're gonna keep your machine for at least 1.5-2 more years, get it, if you MAY sell it sometime soon, save that money towards an upgraded machine.

If you have a laptop, I always get extended coverage due to the more wear and tear they are subjected to, as well as the difficulty in servicing them. With desktops, it's different. I come from building PCs myself and fixing problems are easy. With the new G5s though, I will probably purchase Applecare when I decide to get a dual G5. Like Assasyn said, if you plan on holding onto your computer for over a year, then it's a decent investment, otherwise save the money if you go through quick upgrade cycles and don't buy it straight from Apple, unless you are a student and get the EDU discount.

I think I'm going to wait until my first year is almost up. It's quite expensive and I don't have the money right now anyhow.

Also, isn't the applecare transferrable? That way, when you sell it, the new owner get's applecare thus raising the "value" of your powerbook over others. And not only for the cost of the applecare but for the fact that the new owner has piece of mind that this used computer is still covered. So they may pay more for your used powerbook over others.

Ohh yes... I will defiantly get Apple care... I want that backup parachute now!! Speaking about smalldog.com their PowerBook ACP is 299 USD. Now if you�re a student go with Apple. I would get APC for 239 USD at the educational discount.
