According to a report on macosrumors.com, OPenGL seems to scream on OSX, so I'm wondering whether game performance with rev. B iMacs would improve (with OSX's better OpenGL), or decline (with the burden of the new OS)?
Any thoughts on that?

Well, we will probably see a slight increase in performance. This is based on the assumption that the OpenGL drivers on OS X will be more efficient than those in Classic. However, I believe the OpenGL drivers in OS X leverage the use of Altivec and this would account for the extreme jump in performance. So for those of us with G3s, I think we're basically out of luck as far as a huge jump in performance is concerned.

FYI,
Some OPEN GL based screen savers run way faster on my iMac DV 400 under OS X PB than anything I've seen on OS 9. I've no idea why.

i think in osx that they have hardware drivers for rage128 cards
since osx opengl things run in software mode for me on my 266 imac
but my friend has a g3 with the rage128 and the opengl ran superfast, but he got a raedon and it was just as slooooow as my imac
hopefully when its released it will be all hardware accelerated

On the new hardware it's the write combining that speeds up frame rates sooo much.

I forgot to mention that the graphics card in the Rev B iMac is a light weight. I doubt you'll see any real improvement in OpenGL on that machine.

There will a minor improvement in speed, although it will not lag as much as it does not. Or at least not nearly as much, but it's OS X so that's all that matters .

We can hope that optimization will improve our gaming performance...either way, i ditched gaming on a Mac for a console(thanks to the new cheap dreamcast price). Much cheaper
