lowering the voltage too much can cause random shut down, I have found this out on desktop machines. That seems like a cool little app, though.

finally...an app that will correctly display the current clock speed. it's unfortunate that the trial version doesn't allow you to change the voltage/speed settings. I'm interested to see if setting it to 1008MHz and lowering the voltage will give me some more battery life, but I don't want to buy it (even though it's only $10) if it's not going to be worth it...

That was something I wondered about the config of MBs. CoreDuoTemp never reports less than 1.5Ghz. Also, it doesn't seem like a core shuts off ever, either. I might buy this app just to find out what I can get out of it.

Coolbook reports 1Ghz and CoreDuoTemp reports 1.83 Ghz, hmmmmm. They report the same temp, though.

Forget it. I am uninstalling.

the only thing that will display a temp that is somewhat accurate for me is the Fan Control prefpane...CDT and this app flash 34C and 40C over and over.

Speaking of Fan Control prefpane, what are the best settings for the base fan speed and lower and upper temperature thresholds? What exactly are those thresholds referring to?

i have mine on 40* and 70*, that way the fan is already "spun up" if the temp increases.

the lower threshold is the temperature at which the fan begins increasing speed. the upper threshold is the temperature at which the fan reaches maximum speed.

Did it report 1GHz all the time? or did i change by load?
1GHz should only be 0.95V according to Intel. That is overvolting and not good at all!
When it idles is should stay at 1GHz 0.95V.

Well, my theory is that the program is at fault. The Mhz and temp changed kind of randomly. CoreDuoTemp seems to report higher frequencies when the computer is woking harder. Also, when the bottom feels warm, the temp gauge reports a higher number. I trust CoreDuoTemp. I don't trust this other program and I am not going to use it.

That is correct, I looked at mine and it's not often it steps down to 0.95v. I guess the system is never that idle.

I find that CDT is ocasionally inaccurate - it will sometimes give me a low temp (say ~28C) when it is warmer, and sometimes reports 40-50C first boot in the AM... I've verified the tmep with an IR gun, I know it was dead wrong in those instances.

BTW, what is "Fan Control prefpane" ?
