hello everyone,
I have a really long confusing question so bear with me plz...
Me and my girlfriend are currently looking into buying a MB or MBP after having screw up after another with our pcs but the thing is we are lost with which one to purchase. I had my mind set on the new2.53 unibody MBP but she and the sales guy talked me down to a 2.4 MBP. Now we are even wondering if we need a macbook pro n not just a macbook n are totally lost

Im going to use it for everyday stuff, playing world of warcraft (just got into it), getting back into photography and making music/recording bands (logic, reason, pro-tools, ableton live) thats why I need something portable

shes going to use it for light everyday stuff also n photoshop

should we buy the new unibody models or go with an older model mac since its our first one n are a lil scared

Get the Pro as you will need the real video card for a better game experience and I can tell you as a designer that using Photoshop on the MB's small screen size and resolution is not fun.

Get the current models, they are amazing. Also be sure to use your student promo for a discount and free printer.

You need Firewire for any serious audio recording work.

You must buy the MacBook Pro - or the plastic MacBook.

Since photography and gaming are issues for you, that rules out the plastic MacBook with its lack of discrete graphics chip and *much* inferior display quality.

You must buy the MacBook Pro.

You don't need the 2.53 GHz version. The processor speed isn't going to make a real difference, and the hard drive is irrelevant, since you can get a FAST 320GB drive for well under $100 and replace it yourself in under two minutes. The only remaining difference is the graphics card, which, from the sound of it, isn't going to make $500 worth of difference to your usage.

I'd recommend picking up AppleCare before the end of the year.

I think there's a thread in the Software forum about which free programs are a must-have for a Mac.

Here are some useful websites:

www.versiontracker.com

WoW and "getting back into." anything are incompatible. I hope you don't get sucked in like the other 12 million people. Best of luck with your Pro purchase I wish I had one
