My Mac Firewire ports are showing their age I guess.
One of the connectors has a good bit of play.
I was able to plug a Firewire cable in backward.
It felt a little odd but not unreasonable when
it went in.
The other end of the cable was connected to my
Sony DCR-TRV27. Now, it appears the Firewire
on my Sony camcorder is dead.
Has anybody seen this before? Any chance
of reviving the Firewire port?

i dont know really what may of had happened...
but i heard that one way to blow out a firewire port on your camcorder is to plug in the firewire into the camera WHEN THE CAMERA IS ON.
If this is what really happened, the firewire port is damaged for good and you have to send it in for repairs...
i really hope i am wrong....
but this is what i heard from the dv show podcast a few months back

i am pretty sure it can be repaired...i just dont know how much it can cost you.
i never took a good look inside my mac, but if my theory/guess is correct, the firewire port is connected to the logic board (my guess only). so if the firewire port got busted and my guess is true, then your probably going to be settled with a large bill since the logic board may have to be replaced...
my guess only...

Yes, it happened to me twice with Sony camcorders. This was about 3 years ago. A brand new Sony mini-dv camera and it stopped working within minutes. Thinking it was my Tibook's FW port, I called Apple and after a couple procedures over the phone, they told me it was the camcorder. I took it back for a replacement and the same thing happened to the 2nd Sony. I took that back and got a Canon. iMovie recognized the Sony's fine at first and it was listed under compatible cameras.
Is this a laptop or a desktop Mac? I guess a desktop's FW can be replaced much easier.

I have no lid upon my head. But if I did, you
could look iniside and see what's on my
mind.
