I know it sounds corny but its true. We deserve an official msn messenger than has all the features of the windows counterpart. It only takes a second to sign the petition, no registration required, so please take a moment to sign.

Or you could try using a Jabber transport with iChat.

You might want to retitle this thread - the current title is very vague.

MS has already said they are working to make the Mac version comparable to the PC version. Maybe you should make a petition to have them do it faster.

You may have more luck donating to Adiumx, as they are working on a video/audio version of their all-in-one IM client.

Maybe I'm clueless, but what is so special about MSN that it even needs to be brought to the Mac in full? What's wrong with iChat, Facebook, MySpace, and the dozens of other non-Microsoft connecting and communicating applications that we need MSN?

The Microsoft MSN client is awful. I don't see why anyone would use anything other than Adium, which is fantastic. I just hate that I have to use Pidgin when I'm on a Windows machine.

In reality, the "extra features" that you get with MSN kinda suck, in protocol implementation, it is not hard to mirror it bit for bit. (I got to do it for a product that no one will ever see. Damn NDA.), but the interface is horrid and there is no good way to mirror the features without copying that terrible GUI.

What are you really missing in the client? The gimmicky features that everyone forgets about after 10 minutes, like Ink and animated emoticons?

The fact that MSN has the VAST majority of instant messenger services, outside the U.S. of A.?

The only nice thing a real MSN client would bring is the integrated XBOX LIve support, so I could keep an eye on my Friend's list while not on the xbox.

MS is already working on it. MS Messenger for Mac has no video because they are waiting for the Windows Live Messenger groups (corporate and private) to both switch to the new video format they'll be using soon. The Mac version will do video then.

Yeah. Sure. MS has been saying that for years.

If I don’t agree with you, why the hell would I sign your petition? As a supporter of superior Mac solutions such as Adium, deeper Microsoft penetration of the Mac market is NOT in my interest.

Adium is superior if you're just sending text messages. But if you want to use the other bazillion features of MSN you're screwed. I'm not a big fan of MSN, but this means that when I'm communicating with other people via IM in Iceland (where, unfortunately, MSN has become the de facto standard IM protocol), I regularly have to use the sentence "sorry, I don't see that - I'm on a mac", and getting the reply "oh, I see. A Mac. Sorry".

And that is not doing good things for Mac OS X penetration here. The message being sent is simply that if you use a Mac, you can't communicate easily with others on the Internet.

I find that the people who rely on those bazillion other features you mention for communication are not typically the kind I need to communicate with because they tend not to understand the concept of efficiency. YMMV.

I noticed aMSN is seldom suggested as an alternative to MSN, is there a reason for that? Most features from Windows are there, including webcam support. I've been using the latest beta and up-to-date SVN since a while and I like it very much!

I use Meebo. Web-based. History of chat available from wherever I sign in. Nice. Besides MSN also supports AIM, Yahoo, ICQ, Facebook MySpace, Jabber, Google Talker, etc.....

Jesus. And statements like that is the reason the mainstream population thinks Mac users are a bunch of arrogant, self-aggrandizing, pathetic a-holes.
